Rafael Hernandez

Rafael (Roy) Amaya Hernandez, age 83, of Indio California, passed away on June 7, 2026. Roy was born on October 25, 1942, in Douglas Arizona, to Octaviano and Andrea Hernandez. He was the youngest of four brothers. Roy attended Douglas High School, Class of 1962, where he was recognized as an All-American Athlete. Immediately after high school, Roy began working in construction. In the early 80’s, Roy relocated to Indio, California, a city with historical family roots. In 1985, Roy met and later married Lucia (Lou) Fierro Hernandez. They were married for 38 years and resided in Indio California until his death. Roy was a devout Catholic, rosary maker, and volunteer, offering his services to those in need. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Richard Hernandez and David Martinez, and brothers Gilberto and Ernesto Hernandez. He is survived by his wife Lou, children Ana Maria, Hector, Enrique and Art Hernandez, and several grandchildren. Vigil service will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Indio California, on June 30, 2026, between 4-8 p.m., with the rosary beginning at 6p.m. Funeral Mass is scheduled July 1, 2026 at 10 a.m, with the Rite of Committal following at the Coachella Valley Cemetery.
