Quang “George” Le Tran was born in Nha Trang, Vietnam, on June 19, 1962, to Dat Tran and AiLan Le Ngo. He was their firstborn and the eldest of seven children.

After the Vietnam War ended in April 1975, Quang and his family emigrated to the United States as refugees and settled in Glendale, California. After graduating from Glendale High School in 1979, he attended Cal Poly Pomona and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984. It was during his time at Cal Poly Pomona that his life would change forever. Through mutual friends, he met the love of his life, Ana Hafoka. Although they came from two very different immigrant households and backgrounds, they found in each other a shared love, laughter, and connection that would last a lifetime. They married in 1986 and welcomed their daughter, Connie, in 1987, followed by their son, Douglas, in 1989. Quang began his career at the aerospace manufacturing corporation McDonnell Douglas before making a career change to the Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department (CSSD). He devoted 33 years to the County before retiring in June 2024. Throughout his years at CSSD, he was known for his happy-go-lucky personality, joyful spirit, and wonderful sense of humor. He was a natural jokester who could make just about anyone laugh, and his presence brought lightness and warmth wherever he went. Quang called West Covina, California home from 1989 until his passing. He and Ana turned their house into a warm home, with such a reflection of who Quang is. The stability in the bones of the house, in the yard he carefully maintained, in the rooms he cared for, and in all the little details that made this house uniquely his.

But if there was one word that best described Quang, it would be family. His family was his whole world. He did everything with his family and, more importantly, for his family. He was famously known for his incredible barbecues. Cooking was one of the many ways he showed his love: generously, enthusiastically, and always with the hope that everyone would have plenty to eat and enjoy. Quang was the patriarch of his family. His siblings and cousins looked up to him and continually turned to him for advice, knowing that he would always listen and be there. Everyone knew they could call Quang, and he would show up for them in a heartbeat. He was one of the most reliable, loyal, and dependable person anyone could have in their lives. His family knew that no matter what happened, they could count on him.

But of all the roles he held in his life, his favorite title was undoubtedly “Grandpa”. Even before retirement, Quang’s life revolved around his two granddaughters, 6-year-old Chloe and 3-year-old Sophia. He absolutely adored them. He doted on them, made them laugh, spoiled them whenever he could, and loved nothing more than spending time with them. He made sure they always had what they needed, but even more importantly, he made sure they always knew how deeply they were loved. Being their Grandpa was one of his greatest joys and proudest accomplishments.

Quang is survived by his mother, AiLan Le Ngo, and father, Dat Tran; his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Ana Tran; his daughter, Connie Tran Royal; son-in-law, Daniel Royal; son, Douglas Tran; and granddaughters, Chloe Royal and Sophia Royal. He is also survived by his siblings, Chinh Tran, Dai Tran, Tammy Tran Ciccone, Bonnie Tran Cassidy, and Tree Tran Lachowicz; brothers-in-law, John Ciccone, Ryan Cassidy, Nik Lachowicz, and sister-in-law Quyen Pham. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Minh Tran, who passed away in 2021. To his nieces and nephews, Samantha Ciccone, Chris Lachowicz, Angela Tran, Leilani Tran, Lena Lachowicz, Luca Ciccone, and Meghan Cassidy, he was lovingly known simply as “Uncle”. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, countless cousins and extended family members, both in the United States and in Vietnam, all of whom were deeply loved.

Quang’s life was defined not by what he had, but by what he gave - his laughter, his loyalty, his time, his generosity, his humor, and above all, his love. His passing leaves an irreplaceable hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Though we will miss his laughter, jokes, cooking, advice, and simply having him beside us, the love he gave so freely will remain with us always.
