Primitivo Aquino

Primitivo Alarcon Aquino was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother during his incredible 99 years of life.  Our dearest "Tatay" passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 9, 2023.  He resided in Anaheim at the time of passing.

Primitivo was born on May 25, 1924 to Arcadio and Narcisa Aquino in the Philippines. He studied Architecture and worked as a designer for a furniture company. He was a gifted artist and a skilled calligrapher. Later on, he started his own business and opened a store. He sold glasswares and fine china.

Primitivo was 58 years old when he immigrated to the USA. He lived a simple and happy life with his family for 41 more years. One of his favorite hobbies was following his favorite NBA team, the LA Lakers. His favorite player was Kobe Bryant. He maintained a detailed, handwritten log in impeccable penmanship of all their games. He took care of his grandchildren together with “Nanay.” We could count on him to keep the kids well fed and clean, as well as help with school art projects.

We were truly blessed to celebrate Tatay's 99th birthday gathered in unity as a family on a beautiful, sunny day in May of 2023. Tatay frequently commented that he felt strong and would reach his 100th birthday. Though we knew he struggled with his physical limitations, he never complained and frequently expressed: "I love you!" and "Thank you very much!" to those that assisted him. Tatay's consideration for others and kindness was genuine and unfailing.

We were always impressed by how alert and sharp his memory remained over the years. He was meticulous at keeping track of medical appointments in his calendar. Tatay enjoyed taking short strolls around with his walker.  Often times we would scramble to catch up with him as he was notorious for taking off on his own. Tatay also loved dining out for dim sum. And one must never forget to order his favorite chicken feet.

Primitivo is survived by his wife, Aurelia, and children, Adoracion, Gerardo, Hilario, Gloria, and Marylou. Primitivo joined in heaven his parents, Lolo Arcadio and Lola Narcisa and all of his 7 siblings: Juan, Anita, Filomena, Patricia, Fidel, Felix, and Alicia.

A prayer/visitation service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Lawn in Covina Hills (Church of our Heritage). A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Covina followed by a committal service at Forest Lawn in Covina Hills (Abiding Trust - Lot #342)

A graveside service at Forest Lawn Covina Hills (Abiding Trust - Lot #342) will immediately follow after the mass in Sacred Heart Church.
