Presentacion Lucero Amit

February 26, 1925 — February 11, 2014

Our beloved Presentacion Hijara Lucero Amit (Presy), age 88, passed away at St. Vincent Medical Center on Tuesday, February 11 at 2:40 a.m. She was born on February 26, 1925 in Alegria, Cebu, Philippines. Presy is the daughter of Prudencia Hijara and Luis Kintanar Lucero and one of eight children; Teliang, Prot- acio, Roquing, Nelly, Saling, Wilfred, and Gilbert.

As a little girl, Presy loved to play in the ocean, ride horses, dance, and sing with her sisters. She was one of the few women who went to Southwestern University to study law, and even became Miss College of Law. After gradua- tion, she became an elementary and high school history and biology teacher in Cebu and eventually became a professor at Divine Word University in Tacloban City.

Presy met a ship captain, Amado Mayonila Amit, during one of her two-day sailing trips to Basilan, Zamboanga to visit family. Amado and Presy fell in love and married on October 4, 1953. They left the Philippines in June 1969 in pursuit of a better future for their children and resided in Los Angeles since their arrival. Amado and Presy were married 59 years until Amado's passing in January 2013.

In Los Angeles, Presy spent much of her time gardening. She was passionate about planting her roses and working the soil, due to her family's background in farming after the Liberation. Presy also loved to sew and take care of her grandchildren as shown through the many outfits fashioned by her grandkids.
Presy is survived by three children: Lemuel (Lem), Emmanuel (Em/Manny) and Maria (Luchie); nine grandchildren: Aliecia, Marina, Valerie, Marlon, Jere- mie, Erika, Justin, Jessica, and Jaimie; eight great-grandchildren: Sharina, Maia, Ashley, Ashton, Aiden, Ethan, Kyle, and Tyler; and a large extended family of loving relatives and friends.
