Pieter was born in Delft, Netherlands, completed doctoral studies in theology and pastoral psychology at the Free University of Amsterdam and became senior minister of Reform Churches in Westeremden and Wormerveer, Netherlands and Brussels, Belgium . In 1972 Pieter came to Los Angeles with his partner Hans Huizer. He then worked as a psychotherapist and as a staff member of a Los Angeles Metropolitan Church. He was involved in mental health issues like suicide prevention and hospice. He was also Pastor of Visitation at First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. Pieter loved working in his garden, music (particularly organ music) and worldwide travel.
He is survived by his family three sisters: Riet (age 94), Adie (age 91), Annie (age 90). His nephews and nieces: Paul, Ida, Marijtje, Marijke, Margreet, Rietje, Anneke, Els, Children of Adie : Simon, Paul, Marijke, Anna-Maria, Joanna, Caroline, Paul
