May 31, 1936 — May 30, 2022

It is with the heaviest heart that we share the passing of our most beloved father/grandfather/great-grandpa, Nilo Pinawin. Tatay or Tay (pronounced as "tie"), as we lovingly call him, was called home by his Creator, Our Lord, on May 30, 2022. We were with him as he took his last breath and transitioned to his next journey, the eternal life with Our Lord. He was 85 years old.

Tay was born in Mindoro, Philippines to Clemencia and Ruperto, both deceased. Tay was pre-deceased by his only brother, Ruperto, Jr. Tay was the loving husband of our mom/grandma/great-grandma/"Nay," Celia, for 68 years, a wonderful father to his six children, an amazing grandfather to 18 grandchildren, and a great-grandpa to two. Tay had a blessed and a full life in the US for 40 years. He courageously immigrated to the US at the age of 45 in search of a better life to support his family. Through his incredible work ethic, perseverance, hard work, and unwavering ambition, he achieved the proverbial American dream! After only 4 years of being in the US, Tay and Nay purchased their forever home in Norwalk, California where they have lived since the 80's to the present. Upon arriving in the US, Tay worked as a medical coder at US Ad for a couple of years then moved on to Security Pacific Bank (now part of Bank of America) as an analyst. He retired from Bank of America in 1996. During retirement, Tay actively cared for his young grandchildren and also operated a Filipino video store in Artesia. He finally fully retired in 2008 after he sold the video store. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fixing anything in the house, grilling for the unending family parties, singing the karaoke, going to the casino, watching the Lakers and WWE, and playing Lotto scratchers. Tay enjoyed traveling the world with the love of his life, Nay; they have visited 22 countries in 3 continents and 13 US states.

Tay is well loved and admired by all of us and our friends for his kindness, thoughtfulness, keen sense of humor, quiet strength of character, work ethic, grit, his deep faith and reverence to Our Lord, and most of all for being an outstanding role model as to what a son, husband, father, grandfather, and a friend should be. He is survived by his wife, Celia, his children, Jerry (Opin; children – Jmee, Jeff, Kim, & "baby," Jake & Christian), Beth (Mon; Marijin - Lexo, Jen, Aaron), Sonny (Jean; Cielo & Calvin, Kathryn, Josh), Cherry (Bob; Megan & Dane, Kevin, Ryan, Sean), Babie (Kelly; Kelsi), and Ronnie (children – Kiana, Christian, Kaili, Chris).
