Peter K. Khoury, born on August 14, 1934 in Jerusalem, Palestine, to parents Khalil and Mary Khoury, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Peter grew up in a close-knit family with three siblings: his older sister Laurette, older brother Tom, and younger brother John. The family resided in Jerusalem until 1948, when the Nakba resulted in the loss of their homes and properties, forcing them to relocate to nearby Jordan. Peter completed his education in Jordan before returning to Jerusalem as a young adult to establish an auto parts business specializing in German cars.
In Jerusalem, Peter met the love of his life, Therese. They married in 1967, and shortly after, another war broke out. Considering the future of their family, especially their daughter Ruby, Peter and Therese made the challenging decision to immigrate to the United States. They settled in Los Angeles, where Therese had family.
Peter worked for Volkswagen of America for several years before venturing out to start his own auto parts business. He was a dedicated and hardworking man, known for never missing a day of work and never complaining. His perseverance and commitment made him an excellent provider for his family and an amazing father. He retired in 2000 and devoted his time to being an extraordinary grandfather to his grandchildren, Celine and Michael. Peter was a constant presence in their lives, actively participating in their activities and offering unwavering support.
In 2005, Peter experienced the heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife, Therese. Despite this profound loss, he continued to live independently, cherishing the memories of their time together. Two years ago, after much persuasion, he decided to move in with his daughter Ruby and her family. This period was a precious time filled with love and togetherness that will be cherished by his family.
Peter's calm demeanor, loving nature, and unwavering dedication to his family will be deeply missed. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and special memories. His family finds solace in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved Therese.
Peter is survived by his daughter Ruby, his son-in-law Sam, and his grandchildren Celine and Michael. His life and legacy will be honored in a ceremony on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
Rest in peace, Peter. You will be dearly missed.
