Peter Tan Phat Cao

October 11, 1927 — December 12, 2018

In loving memory of Reverend Peter T. Cao. Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Reverend Cao, father of 11 children, died of natural causes in Garden Grove, California. He was 93. He was born Long Xuyên, Vietnam in 1925 and met his wife of 62 years in Cambodia. In 1972 he and his wife founded the first Vietnamese Assembly of God Church in Vũng Tàu. During the War they operated the Vũng Tàu Christian Foster Home, and he was the father figure to more than 250 Amerasian children. They helped the children escape through Operation Baby Lift and many have gone on to lead fruitful lives. After escaping the War to Long Beach in 1975, Peter devoted his life to serving God and ministering to the Vietnamese American community. In 1989, he returned to Vietnam and reestablished the Assemblies of God Church of Vietnam, which today has grown to more than 25,000 members. He will be remembered as a preacher of the Gospel and a father to many. He is survived by 11 children, 25 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
