Perla Galang

Perla Galang was born on the small island of Siquijor in the Philippines, a place known for its magic, fireflies, and impossibly beautiful white sand beaches. As a child, she survived the brutal Japanese occupation of her island, helped raise her younger siblings, and took an hour-long boat ride to another island just to attend middle school. Her intelligence and drive carried her to college, where she discovered her calling in nursing — a career that would shape her entire life.

She married the love of her life, Abelardo “Dodo” Galang. Together, they moved to California with their two children, Gino and Geraldine. Leaving behind a comfortable life in Cebu for a chance at a better future. In California, she worked as a psychiatric nurse at the VA — stylish even in scrubs, always in heels. No matter how long her shifts, there was always a warm meal on the table and room for one more at her famous family fiestas.

After her husband passed in 2005, she lived on for her five grandchildren: Tiara, Candice, Miranda, Morgan and Andrew. She watched her grandkids graduate university, find careers, and get married. In her final year, she met her first great-granddaughter, Avery, bringing endless joy. On October 17, 2025, Perla reunited with her Dodo, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and fierce devotion that will live on in all of us.
