Obituary

Pedro Valle Rodriguez, affectionately known to many as Don Pedro, was born on November 18, 1941, in Zacatecas, Mexico. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at his home in Lakewood, California, at the age of 84.

To his family, Don Pedro was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a hardworking provider, and a proud Zacatecano whose quiet acts of love shaped generations.

Don Pedro is survived by his beloved wife, Lourdes, his children, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, siblings and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever cherish his memory.

Anyone who knew Don Pedro knew that if he wasn't at home on any given weekend, he was probably at the racetrack betting on the fastest horse or at the casino trying his luck at the slot machines. He was also a devoted fan of Ranchera music. Among his favorite artists were Jorge Negrete, Javier Solís, Miguel Aceves Mejía, and, of course, Antonio Aguilar, whom he proudly reminded everyone was also from Zacatecas.

When relaxing at home, Don Pedro enjoyed watching classic Mexican films from the 1930s through the 1950s or settling in to watch a Dodgers game. Although he often claimed he enjoyed watching them lose, his family always suspected he was secretly one of their biggest fans.

Having grown up on a ranch in Zacatecas, Don Pedro developed a deep appreciation for nature. He took great pride in caring for his yard, trees, and plants, and his green thumb was undeniable. His yard reflected the same care, patience, and dedication that he brought to everything he did.

Don Pedro also had a special love for animals. Although he initially insisted that no dogs would ever be allowed in his home, he eventually fell completely in love with his "muchachos," Romeo and Brandon. Years later, Haru also found a special place in his heart. Like so many things in life, what began with hesitation became unconditional love.

Above all else, Don Pedro's greatest passion was providing for his family. He worked tirelessly to ensure his children always had everything they needed. His love was rarely expressed through words. Instead, he showed it through sacrifice, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to his family.

His wife and children would describe him as incredibly stubborn and strict, but also as the quintessential Mexican father, mustache included. He was a provider, a man of tremendous physical and mental strength, remarkably wise, hardworking, meticulous, and exceptionally hospitable.

Don Pedro was an early riser, waking long before the sun each day. His children remember being awakened at six o'clock on weekend mornings to help clean the yard. He insisted that every last piece of trash be picked up by hand, teaching them the values of discipline, responsibility, and hard work. While those lessons weren't always appreciated at the time, they became gifts his children would carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Although Don Pedro could seem serious, even intimidating, to those who first met him, his playful and talkative side always emerged when he was surrounded by the people he loved.

For more than 30 years, Don Pedro and his wife Lourdes built a home filled with love, hard work, laughter, and unwavering devotion to their family. Lourdes says she will always remember how funny he was. He was always saying something silly or trying to trick her. He would often play jokes on her and when he least expected it, she would play the same joke on him. These are the memories she will hold near to her heart for the rest of her life.

His son, Jerry, also remembers his father's sense of humor. Whenever Jerry would ask what he was going to get him for his birthday, Don Pedro would jokingly reply, "A whooping if you don't behave."

His grandson, JJ, whom Don Pedro lovingly called Jerardito, will always cherish their trips to the mall together. With his signature sense of humor, Don Pedro would jokingly tell JJ not to call him "Grandpa" whenever they were around girls. Of course, JJ would do it anyway, prompting Don Pedro to flash him a playful look of mock annoyance. It was one of the many lighthearted moments they shared, a reflection of Don Pedro's playful spirit and the special bond they had.

His daughter-in-law, Veronica, would probably say that she no longer has an excuse for being late to work. Every time she was about to leave, Don Pedro would say, "Wait a minute, just give me five minutes," or, "Come here, I want to tell you something." He would then begin telling her a story or sharing one of the many projects he had in mind. Those five minutes almost always turned into fifteen or twenty. They were simple conversations, but they were filled with warmth, laughter, and love.

Don Pedro was also incredibly generous with his family. His wife remembers him always saying that someone didn't have to be celebrating a birthday to deserve a gift. He would often buy her clothes, shoes, or anything else she may have wanted.

His son, Junior, fondly remembers the day his father bought him a Game Boy Advance. "I couldn't stop thanking him." Don Pedro knew just how much his son loved video games.

His daughter, Isa, shared, "I have so many beautiful memories with my dad. The most recent is from our trip to Zacatecas. I'm incredibly grateful that I was able to visit his hometown and finally understand all the stories he used to tell me when I was a little girl. I even had to admit that he was right all along, Antonio Aguilar really was from Zacatecas! I realized it when we drove past his statue on horseback and saw the sign that read, 'Villanueva, Land of Antonio Aguilar.' My dad got a laugh out of how surprised I was."

Those moments of laughter, long conversations, and family togetherness are the memories his loved ones will cherish forever.

A proud son of Zacatecas, Don Pedro was a devoted follower of the Holy Child of Atocha, a faith that remained close to his heart throughout his life.

In his early twenties, Don Pedro made the courageous decision to leave his life in Mexico and build a future in the United States. Through perseverance, determination, and an unwavering work ethic, he achieved the American dream as he understood it: owning a home, providing for his wife and children, and living a life defined by honesty, humility, and integrity.

Don Pedro may not have said “I love you” every day, but he lived those words every single day. He showed his love through his sacrifices, his hard work, his generosity, his laughter, and through always putting his family first. That was the greatest gift he gave his family, and it is the legacy he leaves behind.

His legacy lives on not only through the family he loved so deeply, but also through the values he instilled in them: faith, resilience, hard work, generosity, humility, and an unconditional love for family. Though their hearts are heavy, they find comfort in knowing that his love will continue through every life he touched and every generation that follows.

Thank you for everything, Dad. We love you, and we will carry you with us always.
