Paulus H. Santoso

Paulus H. Santoso (霍兆鴻) was born on July 12, 1927 in Belawan Deli, Indonesia as the eighth of 10 siblings. Since his youth, he acted as a central pillar for all his family following the passing of his parents. Throughout his life, he indulged in several passions. His talent for martial arts and Chinese calligraphy ran from many generations before him. A skilled cameraman, he won first place in a photography competition. He also pursued several careers in his life, working as a teacher, spice and textile trader, president of Avon Indonesia, forestry and wood processing expert/CEO, and more. He last worked as a successful tiger prawn farmer for many years before he retired in 1994.

He moved to Los Angeles when his first grandson was born in 1994 and lived with his family for almost three decades. In his later years, he devoted much of his time towards gardening, cooking, and painting. He passed away on August 20, 2023 in Whitter, California at 96 years old, after a courageous battle recovering from a stroke. He is survived by his wife, Nila; his son, Johannes; his daughter-in-law, Erni; his grandsons, Jeffrey and Jerry; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
