Paul Ray Newman, of Fullerton, CA, passed away on June 18, 2023 at St Jude hospital in Fullerton, CA due to complications following an emergency surgery. His family had time to say their goodbyes.
Paul was born in Bellflower, CA, on October 29, 1959. He joined the International Union of Operating Engineers at the age of 17 and worked in the union for 46 years. He was a backhoe operator by trade and participated in many backhoe rodeos, consistently placing in the top three. Paul was highly respected and admired by his peers, and was known to be one of the best backhoe operators in Southern California. Paul was selfless, kind, and compassionate, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He married the mother of his first two children in 1983 and stayed together for over 12 years, raising two fine young men. In 1996, Paul moved to Bullhead City, where he lived for 10 years before moving back to Orange County to be close to his grandchildren. His family expanded further when he had a third son in 2019, followed by a daughter in 2022. He was known for his love of waterskiing, off-roading, and spending time with family at the river or the desert.
Paul is survived by Steven Newman (son); Nicholas Newman (son); Wyatt Newman (son); Kaydence Newman (daughter); Landon Newman (grandson); Logan Newman (grandson); Layton Newman (grandson); Lillian Newman (granddaughter); Madison Newman (granddaughter); Emma Newman (granddaughter); Annie Newman (granddaughter). Paul was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Newman; his mother, Swanna Newman; and his brother, Herbert Newman Jr. A funeral service honoring Paul will be held on Saturday, July 8th at 9am at Forrest Lawn in Cypress, California. Following the service, a reception will be held at Dad Miller Golf Course in Anaheim, California. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to those who have expressed their condolences and support during this difficult time.
