Obituary

Paul Michael Manders, 72, was born on August 1, 1953, in Pomona, California, and passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2026. He spent his final years in Rancho Cucamonga, California, the place he proudly called home for more than three decades.

Raised in Arcadia, Paul Michael grew into a man defined by quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he loved. He graduated from Rosemead High School in 1972 and went on to pursue college before building a life rooted in hard work. He worked as a truck driver and, through persistence and determination, eventually established his own trucking business. He was known for his tireless work ethic, rarely taking a day off, and for the pride he took in providing for his family.

Though often quiet, Paul Michael had a playful and gentle spirit. He expressed his love in small, unforgettable ways, such as stepping on a foot in passing, playfully pulling a strand of hair, or repeating his familiar “Ay, ay, ay” with a smile. He had a natural humor that surfaced in subtle jokes and lighthearted moments, bringing laughter to those around him.

His love for his wife, Atania, was constant and unmistakable. He affectionately called her “Lady,” a name that reflected both his devotion and the respect he held for her. He never forgot to send her flowers and rarely wanted to be apart from her, choosing always to remain close to the person who meant the most to him.

Paul Michael found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved tending to his garden, cheering for the Dodgers, and riding his Harley-Davidson. He made the best root beer floats, and he provided small acts of care that became lasting memories for his family. Generous at heart, he was a regular blood donor and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Above all, Paul Michael was devoted to his family, which he considered his greatest achievement and proudest legacy. He was present for life’s most important moments, including the birth of his grandchildren, never missing the chance to show his love and support. He cherished time spent together, including Friday night dinners, Sunday morning breakfasts, holiday celebrations, and Christmas mornings made special with donuts. He also loved capturing these moments through photos and videos, preserving the memories he held so dear.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Atania, and their seven children, Claudia, Bobbie, Lorena, Maggie, Paul Michael Jr., Steven Andrew, and Genevieve. He was a proud grandfather to Madelene, Luis, Brandon, Audrey, Scarlett, Jacob, Sabrina, Roman, and Avery, and a great-grandfather to Ava.

Paul Michael was deeply respected and held in high honor by all who knew him. During his illness, the outpouring of love and support from friends and family reflected the lasting impact he had on so many lives. He lived with humility, loved without condition, and gave of himself freely.

His presence will be profoundly missed, but the love he gave, the traditions he created, and the quiet strength he embodied will remain with his family always.

In quiet reflection, we leave you with these words:

So we’ll go no more a-roving

So late into the night,

Though the heart be still as loving,

And the moon be still as bright.

For the sword outwears its sheath,

And the soul wears out the breast,

And the heart can no longer breathe,

And love itself must rest.
