Patricia Ann Somer

Patricia Ann Somer known as "Pat" by family and friends who loved her passed away Monday, March 21, 2022.

Pat was born September 18, 1938 in Racine, Wisconsin to George Richard and Ann Mary (Adzima) Heidenreich and at the age of three moved to Mt. Vernon, Illinois where she was raised and attended school. She graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School in 1956.

On September 16, 1966 she was married in Los Angeles California to Richard "Dick" Lee Somer who preceded her in death on February 7, 1999 after almost 33 years of a happy marriage.

Pat was a long time member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Arcadia, California.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at California State University at Los Angeles and a MBA at the University of Laverne, both while working full time.

Pat started her working career at the Illinois Power Company in Mt. Vernon as a Utility Clerk for nine years. She worked at California State University at Los Angeles for eighteen years advancing to the position of General Accounting Manager and at Caltech in Pasadena, California as a Supervising Accountant for twenty years until her retirement.

She was an avid traveler having visited all fifty states, Italy and Ireland as well as many local trips as a member of the Arcadia Travelers Club. Her hobbies included bridge, Sudoku and watching Jeopardy. Pat's also a lifelong sports fan following tennis and her favorite player, Rafael Nadal along with the LA Dodgers and Lakers. She and Dick had long-time season tickets to the UCLA football games at the Rose Bowl.

Pat was a member of the Arcadia Woman's Club, the Pasadena Branch of AAUW, the Arcadia Historical Society and many bridge groups.

In addition to her parents and husband Pat was preceded in death by her stepson Robert Somer of Arcadia, California, her two brothers Tom Heidenreich of Bel Air, Maryland and John Heidenreich of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, her brother-in-law Walt Denzler of Decatur, Illinois.

Pat is survived by her stepson William Lee Somer (Kim) of Pollock Pines, California and daughter-in-law Verena Somer of Arcadia, California. She is also survived by her two sisters, Mary Denzler of Decatur, Illinois and Susan (Ron) Doris of San Diego, California, her sister-in-law Anne Heidenreich of Bel Air, Maryland, nephews Michael Denzler (Alyson) of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, Mark Denzler (Debbi) of Springfield, Illinois, Jeff Denzler (Karla) of Argenta, Illinois and Matt Heidenreich of Bel Air, Maryland, niece Jan Markham (Tim) of Bel Air, Maryland, special cousin Joan Duratny of Mooresville, North Carolina and several cousins and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Arcadia on Friday, April 29 at 10:00 am. Gravesite committal service to follow at 12:00 pm at Forest Lawn Covina Hills.
