Patricia Roberts, born on July 31, 1927 in Burley, Idaho, passed away on April 11, 2012. She resided in Los Angeles, California all of her life. She is survived by her husband, James (Mike) Roberts; daughter and son-in-law, Sally and John Ingersoll; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kelley Roberts; daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Joe Reader; grandchildren James, Krista and Michael Roberts and Christopher, Jonathan and Thomas Reader.
Patricia graduated from UCLA with an Art degree. This love and appreciation of art was evident in her eye for beauty and design in everything she pursued in life. Her artistic viewpoint was an appreciated and valued contribution to the family redwood business for many years. She had a beautiful garden and a beautiful home, where you could always find a fresh cut flower from the garden. She noticed and was aware of the beauty in everything she observed.
Patricia married her college sweetheart, Mike, in October of 1950. They were fortunate to be able to spend over 61 loving years together. The family business, J.J. Roberts and Son, was a major part of their lives, with bookkeeping, selling, and long hours of work. For over 25 years, Pat and Mike enjoyed traveling to the Palm Springs area once a month for selling and a little relaxation. They also spent many Octobers celebrating their wedding anniversary in Carmel and the northern coast of California, where they had spent their honeymoon. Together Pat and Mike enjoyed working in their garden , trips to their mountain cabin, evenings around the fireplace in the living room or outside on the patio, and of course being with their family.
Pat was a dedicated and loving mother and a proud grandmother. Whenever she was needed, she was there to offer her help. She was always interested in what was happening in the lives of her family. The family was very important to her and she was so happy when they could all be together.
Pat enjoyed many hobbies. While attending UCLA she joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority and was an active member of their alumni group for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed the friendship, philanthropy projects and social events with her Alpha Delta Pi sisters. She volunteered her time for over 20 years to Friends of UCLA Extension and attended many interesting and exciting extension courses herself. She attended weekly gardening classes at Santa Monica Emeritus College, where they toured local gardens and learned about different plants. She was able to tell you the name of almost any flower or tree and always had a story about the most unusual, beautiful or unique garden she had just seen. She was also an active member of the Pacific Palisades Garden Club.
The family plans on celebrating the life of Patricia Roberts on Memorial Day weekend and will send out more details soon.
