Patricia “Pacing” Manibog Icamen
September 6, 1935 – November 6, 2025
Patricia was born on September 6, 1935 on the U.S.S. Lincoln ship in the Pacific Ocean, traveling from the Philippines to the then Territories of Hawaii. Her original name was, in fact, Marina; it was then changed to Pacifica Lincolnia, in honor of her unusual birthplace. She was the fifth child to the late Adela and Gonzalo Manibog. She had tons of adventures growing up in Hilo, Hawaii. She enjoyed her years at Kapiolani Elementary School and loads of escapades with her sisters, including climbing trees and paddling their little boat in the backyard pond off Hilo Bay.
At age 12, after World War II, Patricia’s father moved the family back to the Philippines. She lived in Quezon City and graduated from St. Theresa’s College. After graduation, she emigrated back to the U.S. with her sister Francine via Hawaii. Patricia settled in Los Angeles’ Historic Filipinotown, first with her oldest sister Esther and brother-in-law Henry (who just happened to be the older brother of her future husband, John). After her mother emigrated to the U.S., Patricia and her unmarried sisters moved in together with their mother. A very talented pianist, Patricia attended both the Southern Conservatory of Music and LACC with the intent of becoming a professional music teacher. While a college student, she simultaneously worked part-time at Grayson’s Department Store downtown and played occasional piano gigs with a local band.
In January 1957, after John was discharged from the Army, Patricia married her sweetheart, whom she had known ever since they were children. They settled down in L.A. and started growing their family; they had four children together: sons Warren, David, and Michael, and daughter Rossana.
Patricia worked part-time at Thriftimart, but gave up her position when her third son Michael came along. She concentrated on being a loving, devoted wife and mother. A born multitasker, she took Spanish classes at night school for four years while juggling house and home. In 1976, she began her career with the Los Angeles Unified School District. She worked for LAUSD in various capacities until her retirement in 1995, working her way up the ladder from a teacher’s assistant to working with the school psychologist, then in payroll and childhood development.
Patricia enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing for her children, walking with and taking them to neighborhood parks, teaching them how to read and spell, and going for outings to museums, amusement parks and local attractions. She always loved playing the piano, from the time she was a child until recently. Other hobbies included reading, gardening, exercising, dancing and doing puzzles. And of course, there were endless conversations with her sisters, family and friends, and countless family gatherings, which she enjoyed immensely.
After she and John divorced in 1984, Patricia became reacquainted with Richard Icamen, who had expressed an interest in her in the 1950’s when they were young singles attending St. Columban Church. In 1985, she and Richard married, and embarked on many wonderful adventures and excursions in both the U.S. and abroad. In 1990, Patricia accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and became a faithful follower ever since. She first attended son Warren’s church fellowship, then Angelus Temple; after moving to Alhambra, she became a member at Bethany Church, where she was blessed to participate in the seniors’ group ministry to local nursing homes.
Patricia passed away unexpectedly while recuperating from surgery on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at a skilled nursing facility in Pasadena, CA. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Glendale. She is survived by her sisters Priscilla Caracol (Francis), Adele Karnopp (Clyde) and Francine Del Castillo; daughter-in-law Lilian (Warren); her children, Philip (Elva), David (Kathy), Michael and Rossana; granddaughters Dana and Maria (Jonathan); grandsons Philip Jr. (Andrea) and Robert (Deeksha); four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Adela and Gonzalo Manibog, her brothers Benjamin and G. Monty Manibog, sister Esther Javier, her ex-husband John Javier, late husband Richard Icamen, and her son Pastor Warren Javier.
She is and will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Creator. Mom, we love you; you will forever be in our hearts and memories.
