Patricia May Brown

August 17, 1946 — October 5, 2012

Patricia May Brown, 66, born on August 17, 1946, in Glendale, California, passed away October 5, 2012. She resided in El Monte, California at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California. Patricia is survived by her Niece Christina Mary Castro and her family: Horacio Castro (husband) and Little Christina Joyce Castro (daughter) 6 years old.

Patricia had a very diffucult life. Her hard journey started when she was just two. She contracted a very serious case of Scarlet Fever and suffered a very high fever. Complications resulted in severe brain damage. Due to the unusual circumstances, Patricia became a ward of the state of California. She grew up in a variety of psychiatric facilities that were for the mentally challenged and/or mentally disabled. Even though Patricia was estranged from her Mother and Sister (1 year older), she loved them very much and looked forward to all of the family gatherings throughout her life. She especially held a special bond with her Sister Joyce who continued to keep Patricia close, even in difficult times.

When Patricia turned 18 years of age, she contiued to live in these facilities and/or homes for the mentally handicapped. Patricia had a great desire to better her life and circumstances. She would attend workshops and classes daily to learn new jobs and activities that would help her find the work she needed to make extra money for herself. She was very dedicated and a hard worker, always willing to learn new trades in the hope that it would open new opportunities for growth. She remained faithful to her workshops for 47 years and to the San Gabriel Pomona, Regional Center for over 20 years. Throughout her entire life she depended and relied on Social Services and their networking services to help her maintain her quality of her life. Even when Patricia developed Parkinson's Disease, and at any given time, her fingers and hands, arms and legs would shake uncontrollably, she continued to work, searching for any kind of assembly line work that she could handle in her physical condition.

Patricia loved her stylish clothes and would spend much of her free time perusing thrift stores in search of the perfect outfit with matching shoes, handbags and accessories. She loved her movies, and her Mexican food. We loved the fact that Patricia was not shy and would always telephone us for her monthly $20.
We will always miss her phone calls...

Patricia was a very devoted Aunt, who we all loved and cared for very deeply. We were heartbroken when Patricia developed respiratory distress due to complications. Patricia silently endured months and months of tremendous pain and suffering. We will always admire Patricia's bravery, determination and perserverance throughout her difficult life.
Patricia will be greatly missed and will always remain forever in our hearts.
