Patricia Ann Abbey

April 6, 1938 — August 20, 2014

Patricia Ann Abbey, long-time resident of La Canada, died Wednesday the 20th of August in La Canada in a tragic car accident where it is believed that she lost consciousness as the result of a diabetic setback.

Pat was born at Los Angeles Queen of Angels Hospital in 1938. She graduated with a degree in Education from UCLA in 1959 where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.

She began teaching elementary school and met Norman Abbey of La Canada. They were married in Basel, Switzerland in 1961 and soon after moved to Paris where their first child, Karen, was born.

After returning to Los Angeles she continued teaching and had two sons, Craig, then Michael. Pat was an active member in the PTA, The Thursday Club, and worked diligently at the voting polls for over 20 years.

Her enthusiasm for bridge led her to acquire the Regency Bridge Club of Glendale in 1986 and build the club into a spirited chapter of the ACBL, still her club to this day.

She and her husband, Norman, loved adventure and explored over 50 countries on five continents.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, her three children, and her daughter in-law Donna, her son-in-law Jaret, as well as her two grandchildren, Erin and Jacklyn, who brought her great joy for many years.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Pasadena Salvation Army, 960 East Walnut St., Pasadena, 91106.

Funeral service will be held Friday, August 29, 1:30, at Forest Lawn Glendale.
