It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Parker Forest Sutton, who passed away on January 2, 2023 in San Dimas, CA after a long battle with cancer. Born on July 14, 1939 in Williams, AZ, Parker dedicated his life to education. He served as a school principal and school district administrator in the Bonita Unified School District, retiring in 2001. He later continued to impact education as an Adjunct Professor at the University of La Verne and Cal Poly University Pomona, where he was known for his kindness and wise demeanor.
In addition to his education work, Parker was active in his community. He served as an officer in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1970, reaching the rank of First Lieutenant. He was also involved in his church, serving as an Elder and choir member at Glenkirk Church.
Parker had many interests and hobbies outside of work. He fulfilled a lifelong dream of obtaining an amateur pilot's license and was passionate about vintage aircraft, frequently attending airshows and volunteering in the restoration of military aircraft at Chino Airport. He was also an amateur astronomer, enjoyed solving crosswords, reading, traveling, camping, classical music, and attending LA Philharmonic concerts.
Parker is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Patricia Riggs Sutton, and his children Jeffrey Sutton and Kathleen Sutton. He is also survived by his granddaughters Sierra Sutton-Putney and Savanna Putney, and his sister Claudia Inman. He was preceded in death by his father Parker G. Sutton II, mother Lorrayne Sutton, brother Carver Sutton, and sister Elizabeth "Bettie" Neel.
A memorial service for Parker will be held on February 3, 2023 at 11:00 am at Glenkirk Church in Glendora, CA, followed by a private graveside service at Forest Lawn Covina Hills. The family requests donations be made to Glenkirk Church Mission Fund or City of Hope in lieu of flowers. Parker will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his legacy will live on through his contributions to education, dedication to preserving vintage aircraft, and his service at Glenkirk Church.
