Oscar Robert Flores

Funeral services for Oscar Robert Flores, age 76, of Sylmar CA were held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, with David Serna officiating. Oscar passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 following a long illness. Services will be in the Church of the Hills with burial following. Pallbearers were Ron Flores, Brad Flores, Fred Flores, Dennis Costa, Lucas Costa, Geary Costa, Roger Zapata, Michael Zapata, and Robert Coronel. A reception was held after services where family and friends joined in a celebration of Oscar's life at the home he shared with his loving wife Esperanza.

Oscar was born on February 12, 1940, to Nicolas and Frances Flores, near El Paso, Texas. He attended elementary school in Riverdale, CA, and then went on to Riverdale High School, graduating in 1959. Oscar was a gifted athlete in high school, lettering in baseball, basketball, football, and track. Following high school graduation, he married and entered Coalinga Community College. He and his young family moved to the Los Angeles area and then to Lancaster CA. Oscar had a long and distinguished career in the PaperMate division of Gillette Industries, retiring from them in 2005.

In 1996, Oscar married Esperanza Figueroa, and they moved to Sylmar CA. Oscar enjoyed watching his LA Dodgers, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, and tinkering in his garden. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Espi, his son Ron Flores, daughter Shelli Turner, stepchildren Hope Coronel, Roger Zapata, and Michael Zapata, siblings Seve Flores, Elaine Davis, Fred Flores, and Raul Flores, and many grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
