Orlando C. Vera

November 18, 1927 — January 22, 2017

Orlando Vera, age 89, of Glendale, CA passed away at his long-time home surrounded by his loving family on January 22, 2017.

Orlando was born on November 18, 1927 in Arequipa, Peru.  Orlando grew up in Peru with his Father and 3 brothers.

Orlando married the love of his life, Elba Jurado Vera on August 30th, 1955. The couple settled in Lima in the late 1950's, where they had their first child Steven "Orlando".

Orlando was highly educated, he received a bachelors degree in chemical engineering at the University of San Marcos in lima, Peru. Shortly after graduating he left Peru, his wife and son to pursue a better life for his young family in Los Angeles. He attended UCLA and obtained his Master's in chemical engineering.
Those first few years were tough for him in Los Angeles attending UCLA and working odd jobs to survive and send money back home to his family. He saved up enough money to bring his wife, son, and nephew, Mario, to Los Angeles to visit him. Elba saw how he was struggling and gave him 3 months to get a job that he studied for or return back to Peru where they could have a good life.
But, Orlando had bigger dreams that he knew couldn't be made in Peru and thus, he tirelessly worked and earned his first chemical engineering job in Glendale. His career was amazing as he worked 50 plus years in the field and retired a Technical Director for HBFuller in Burbank.
Orlando achieved much more in her personal life.

Orlando was a devoted husband and father.  He was very proud of his family and was excited to become a "Papa" to his 4 grandchildren, Steven, Shawn, Shane and Bobby, and, 1 great grandchild, Silas.  He loved holidays, family parties and get-togethers and any chance to spend time with his family. Family was very important to him. From the 70's to early 2000's he and Elba had legendary Latin dance, Halloween and lotto parties.

Orlando will always be known for his kindness, generosity, intelligence, forward thinking, calmness and thoughtfulness.  He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Orlando was the beloved husband of Elba Vera, devoted father of Steven "Orlando" Vera and his wife Susie Vera, his daughter Monica Vera and his younger son Michael Vera. His grandchildren, Steven, Shane, Shawn and Bobby, great grandson Silas, plus his dog Mamba.

Family and friends will gather at the Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills, Church of the Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive Los Angeles, CA 90068 on February 4, 2017 at 12pm for the service followed by the interment in Sheltering Hills.
