Omar Combet, 78, born on March 3, 1947, in the countryside of Entre Ríos, Argentina, passed away on January 10, 2026. He resided in Arcadia, California at the time of his passing.
Omar was raised in the wide grasslands of Entre Ríos, where he spent his early years roaming the countryside, visiting neighbors, and offering a helping hand wherever he could. He carried that same spirit of helpfulness, curiosity, and quiet generosity throughout his life.
When his family—his father Nemesio, mother Alejandrina, and seven brothers and sisters—moved to Florencio Varela, Omar helped build the family home, a place that continues to shelter loved ones to this day. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work, family, and showing up for others.
In search of a better life, Omar immigrated to the United States with a close friend, arriving in Chicago with very little in his pocket and a heart full of adventure and aspiration. He quickly began working as an auto mechanic, continuing the family trade he had learned at a young age. Known for his honesty and problem-solving skills, Omar was the kind of mechanic who could always find a solution.
Through mutual friends, he met Consuelo, and the connection was immediate. True soulmates, they loved dancing, spending time with friends, and sharing life together. Their son, Omar, was born in the mid-1970s, followed by their daughter, Alejandrina.
True to his adventurous nature, Omar lived in several places throughout his life, including Mar de Plata, Miami, Houston, and Guatemala City, before ultimately settling in Los Angeles. No matter where he lived, he loved listening to his tangos and chamarritas, he found joy in fishing, camping by the beach, long drives through the desert, car races, western movies and traditional Sunday asados surrounded by family.
Omar was known for his humor and playful spirit. In his earlier years, he was often the life of the party, quick with a joke and laughter. In later life, he became a calm, steady, and comforting presence—content simply to be near those he loved.
In the early 2010s, after being diagnosed with throat cancer, Omar made a profound turn in his life. He retired from work, quit smoking and drinking, and overcame his illness with resilience and determination. He devoted his remaining years to family, especially to helping raise his beloved grandchildren, Marcos, Paolo, and Penelope.
He proudly took on “stroller duty,” made school lunches—especially his famous fideos—drove them to school, and attended as many school and sports activities as he could. To them, he is forever their cherished “Che-tata.”
Omar was an honorable man, deeply rooted in his values and grounded in truth. He lived simply, without fuss, guided by love, integrity, and devotion to his family. His life was one of quiet strength, kindness, and enduring presence.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
