Olta Evelyne Carnes, age 91, passed into eternity on October 9, 2014, in Long Beach, California. She was born on March 28, 1923 in Muldrow, Oklahoma. Her parents were Osa Ulphin Woodward and Martha Ann Cole. Olta was the second of six children. She grew up in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma and graduated from Sallisaw High School in 1942. She then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she worked for Douglas Aircraft making bombers during World War II. She married her husband, Bud Carnes, in 1948. They moved to Long Beach, California, and bought a home in Lakewood, California in 1952. They loved their little home and remained there the rest of their lives. Olta was a full time homemaker the rest of her life, devoting herself to her husband and her two children. She loved sewing, crocheting, gardening, and doing crossword puzzles. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Lakewood, where she was involved in a nursing home ministry for many years and also served many years in the Women's Missionary Society. Olta is survived by her daughter and husband, Jeanette and Mark Frazier of Wildomar, California; grandchildren: John B. Carnes of Moreno Valley, California; Holly Williams of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Emily Frazier of Wildomar, California; and two great grandchildren; two sisters: Melba Hill of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Louise Scott of Moore, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews. Olta was predeceased by her husband, Bud Carnes, and her son, John S. Carnes; also by her siblings: Dorothy Lewis, Hershel Woodward, and Hubert Woodward.She will be laid to rest next to her husband on Friday, October 17, 2014, at Forest Lawn, Cypress, California. Olta was loved by all who knew her. Everyone was her friend. She always had a smile on her face, a kind heart, and helping hands ready to serve. Her memorial tablet will read, "Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother". A fitting tribute to a simple life well lived.
