Whittier

Odilia Ruiz Villegas, a beloved mother, wife, and devoted educator, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, surrounded by her cherished family—her husband Jaime, sons John and Peter, daughters-in-law Estrella and Maya, her loving niece Jessica and her beloved grandchildren Mario, Alex, Mila, and Noah James. She was born on June 16, 1951, and her spirit touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey.

For over 30 years, Odilia dedicated her life to impacting the hearts and minds of children as a Special Education Instructional Assistant at Winter Gardens Elementary, a place where both of her sons attended. Her profound commitment to education exemplified her loving nature and her desire to foster growth and understanding in young minds. She enriched the lives of countless students, embodying the essence of nurturing and hope in the classroom.

Odilia was a woman of deep faith, waking up every morning in prayer for her family, friends, loved ones, and the world at large. Her belief in Christ was not just a part of her life—it was the foundation upon which she built her values and her approach to life. Known for her kind and warm demeanor, she was a true prayer warrior, a loving wife to Jaime, an equally loving mother to John and Peter, and a doting grandmother to her precious grandchildren.

Her love story with Jaime began while she was working at the See’s candy inside the Sears in Boyle Heights, California. From that moment on, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. Together they celebrated 49 beautiful years together —an inspiring testament to what a strong partnership can accomplish.

In her spare time, Odilia found solace in reading the Bible and nurturing her relationship with God through prayer. These hobbies were more than mere pastimes; they were an integral part of who she was. She often shared her insights and wisdom with her family, fostering a spiritually rich environment for them to grow.

Among her proudest accomplishments were the countless lives she taught and inspired, including her two sons and her grandchildren. Odilia's legacy extends beyond her career and her family; it resonates within the hearts of all those she met, reminding them of the power of kindness and compassion.

Odilia was preceded in death by her beloved sister Magdalena, and her parents Aurelio and Maria, who undoubtedly watched over her with love from beyond. In her earthly journey, she created a vibrant tapestry of memories, woven tightly with love, faith, and unwavering support for her family.
