Mr. Norman Brown passed peacefully at home on Friday, April 28, 2023, in Rancho Mirage, California at the age of 89.
Norman was born on July 6, 1933, in Leavenworth, Kansas to Virgil Brown and Mabel Taylor. He attended Leavenworth High School where he played football and met his wife, Rozella. Rozella and Norman married on January 10, 1954, were married for 69 years, and had six children. After high school, Norman joined the Marine Corp, went on to serve in the Korean and Vietnam War, and served his country for 23 years. He was assigned to the dangerous Explosive Ordinance Department, where he disarmed bombs and landmines. When he retired, he had reached the rank of Captain. He once said that the first black officer he ever saw in the Marine Corp was himself in the mirror.
Norman also made sure to take the time to do some of the things he loved, like camping, fishing, and hunting; but most importantly, he loved to spend time with his family. He made sure that his children had vast experiences and an opportunity to visit many locations in the US. Norman was also known to have his trusty boat in tow, because you never know, you might just stumble across that secret fishing hole.
Norman was also an avid sports fan, most importantly, a true Kansas City Chiefs fan. Go Chiefs Go!
After retirement, he managed a Winchell’s donut shop and worked at a driving school where one of his assignments was teaching high speed driving to highway patrol officers. Norman and Rozella then went on to own several board and care homes for the elderly in both Leavenworth, Kansas and Mission Viejo, California, prior to completely retiring.
No matter where Norman was, he never forgot Rozella’s birthday and Mother’s Day. He always made the time and effort to plan something special just for her, with their six children. Norman was a strong and loving man, who made us laugh and left us feeling loved!!
Norman Brown is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rozella Brown. Children, Monica Dills and her husband James, Rozina Deon Hall, Anita Rhnea Campbell and her husband Elwayne, Norman Brown Jr, Charles Brown and his wife Joy, and Roger Brown and his wife Christina.
