With deep love and gratitude, the family of Norma Page Abiog announces her peaceful passing at the age of 80. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Norma’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, service, and unconditional love.
Norma Page Abiog was born on August 21, 1945, in Iriga City, Camarines Sur, Philippines, to Enrique and Sebastiana Page and she was one of 16 children. She graduated valedictorian of Calderon High School in 1962 and earned her B.S. in Nursing from St. Paul’s University in Manila in 1967 placing in the Top 5 in the national nursing board examinations.
In January 1969, Norma left the Philippines for Canada, where she began her nursing career at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. Later that year, she traveled to the United States to join her fiancé, Joseph Phillip Abiog (JP), a Certified Public Accountant from Lal-lo, Cagayan, Philippines. The couple married on January 1, 1970, in New York City, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love, faith, and shared purpose. In New York, Norma and JP welcomed their daughters Maria Cielo (Mariciel) in 1970, Angelica in 1971, and Darlene Grace in 1973. Norma earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing from New York University in 1978. In 1979, the family moved to Houston, Texas, where their son Robert was born in 1982. Two years later, they settled permanently in Los Angeles, California, to be near her extended family.
Throughout her nursing career, Norma worked as a medical/surgical nurse at Cabrini Medical Center in New York City, Director of Nursing at Houston International Hospital and Nursing supervisor at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica. In her later years, she found her greatest joy as a school nurse with the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Norma was a woman of deep faith and a devoted servant of God. She was a dedicated member of the Legion of Mary, a volunteer chaplain at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, and a member of the Our Lady of Loretto Rosary group. In 2006, she became a Secular Carmelite Discalced. She taught catechism classes at St. Dominic’s and St. Bernard’s and served as a Eucharistic minister for the sick and elderly. She attended daily mass and prayed the rosary with her husband and son, and together they shared an enduring faith that sustained them through every season of life.
She retired in 2010 and kept busy caring for her five grandchildren, Grace, Noah, Brodie, Luke, and Cole. She also found joy in travel, especially on pilgrimages to sacred destinations around the world, including Mexico, Jordan, Egypt, Spain, France, Portugal, and Rome. Most of all, in her retirement she enjoyed spending time at home with her husband of 55 years, JP, and their special needs son, Robert.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Phillip (JP); her children, Maria Cielo (Mariciel), Angelica, Darlene, and Robert; her son-in-law, Andy; and her grandchildren, Grace, Noah, Brodie, Luke, and Cole.
Norma’s family and friends are deeply thankful to all who have shared in her journey and witnessed her grace and unwavering faith. Her life was a testament to the power of love - love for God and family, and compassion for others. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and gentle strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
