Norberto Reyes Jr.

September 12, 1935 — March 20, 2025

Norberto “Bert” Tirona Reyes, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 89, after a long life defined by quiet strength, steadfast determination, and an unwavering devotion to family.

Born on September 12, 1935, in the Philippines to Norberto Reyes, Sr. and Lucia Tirona, Bert was the youngest of five siblings—Pacita, Juanito, Rosie, and Ricardo. From a young age, he demonstrated the resilience and humility that would define his life.

Bert was the first in his family to take the courageous step of immigrating to the United States in 1969, seeking greater opportunities and a brighter future. Two years later, his wife and young children joined him, reuniting the family and beginning a new chapter together on American soil.

A dedicated and hardworking employee of General Motors, Bert took immense pride in his work. He eventually became a union representative, advocating for the rights and well-being of his colleagues with the same integrity and fairness that guided his life. He believed in hard work, justice, and always doing right by others—principles he lived by each and every day.

Yet, Bert’s greatest achievement was not found in his career, but within the walls of his home. Together with his beloved wife of 68 years, Carmelita Castaneda Reyes, he raised four children: Marissa (Cris), Norberto III (Jojo), Melvin (Mel), and Michaelangelo (Mike)—each instilled with the values of resilience, kindness, and integrity. He is also lovingly remembered by his son-in-law Rey, and daughters-in-law Barbara and Lyndee.

His love extended across generations, leaving a profound impact on his 10 grandchildren (Nikee, Christopher, Mia, Jeremy, Aaron, Justin, Noelle, Ashley, Zachary and Annika) and 7 great-grandchildren (Cameron, JC, Elijah, Isla, Amelia, Ryan and Enzo), each a reflection of his warmth and quiet wisdom.

Bert was the steady anchor of his growing family—humble, loving, and ever-present. Whether he was tinkering in the garage, sharing stories at the dinner table, or simply sitting in peaceful silence, his presence was always deeply felt.

His life was a testament to perseverance, love, and quiet heroism. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.  You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure … “
