Nobu Chiu

September 4, 1930 — July 4, 2013

Nobu Ho Chiu, married to Franklin Gee-Fa Chiu, 82, born on September 4, 1930 in Keelung, Taiwan, passed away July 4, 2013. She resided in Pomona, California at the time of her passing. She was survived by 2 sons (Eric C Chiu/married to Jane Chiu, Zen C Chiu/married to Keihwa Chiu), 3 daughters (Judy C Quan/married to Evan Quan, Florence L Wu/married to Michael Wu, Li-Chuan Chiu/married to Charlie Tsai) , 7 grand children (Edmund Chiang/married to Marcia Chiang, Terry Chiu/engaged to Sunny Li, Vincent Wu, Stephanie Tsai, Edward Tsai, Ashley Chiu, Andy Chiu), and 1 great-grandson (Matthew Chiang).

She was a very energetic person, blessed with a wide range of musical talents. She played the organ, harmonica, guitar, in addition to a variety of other instruments. People were impressed by her singing. She graduated from Keelung Municipal High School for Girls and represented the school in the regional table tennis competition. She taught herself how to cook and entertained her guests with breathtaking banquets. She made great Taiwanese snacks in her leisure time. She was gifted in her ability to manage multiple languages like Taiwanese, Japanese, Chinese-Mandarin and English. Because of her linguistic ability, she was able to work for CDC in Taiwan and for the grocery store her daughter used to own in NYC.

Mrs. Chiu stood strong while the business of her husband declined. At that time, she had 5 kids and her in-laws to feed. Jobs were scarce 45 years ago in Taiwan. She worked hard and tried at every possibility to support her children. She came to the States to take care of her first grandchild, and then brought her other children here so that they could pursue the American Dream.

Mrs. Chiu was a person of integrity, discipline, and generosity. Her house was always crystal clean. She taught her children to turn their palms down instead of up because you turn you palm down to give and turn your palm up to beg. She believed in following the Bible, especially remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' She had a strong mind in what she believed and proactively attended all kinds of activities supported by Metropolitan NY Christian Senior Association for Taiwanese in her 60's.

She had been sick for the last ten years her life. Incredible things happened while she was leaving. She seemed to use these things to talk to her children. She chose July 4 to leave us to show her eagerness for freedom, freedom of her spirit and freedom from her suffering. Now that she went home to The Lord, and shall there be no more pain!

Amen
