Ninida “Nida” Saad Daus Parayno
December 16, 1954 - August 23, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ninida “Nida” Saad Daus Parayno on August 23, 2024, at the age of 69. Nida was born on December 16, 1954, in Poblacion, Camiling, Tarlac, Philippines, to Cornelius Gomez Daus Sr. and Marcelina Saad Daus. Raised with her siblings: Virginia, Jimmy, Cornelius Jr., Vicfilamer, and the late Robert.
Nida's educational journey began at Camiling Central Elementary School, where she graduated in 1968, followed by Camiling Colleges in 1972. She attended Far Eastern University and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from St. Catherine School of Nursing in 1977. In 1979, Nida immigrated to the United States, settling in Eastside Long Beach, where she began her career at St. Mary’s Hospital. In 1980, she met Romeo Parayno, and they married in Las Vegas. Nida became a proud mother on April 10, 1984, when she welcomed her son, Christopher Daus Parayno, into the world, showering him with love, toys, and his favorite meals.
Nida was a vibrant spirit, known for her love of dancing and her impeccable fashion sense. In her youth, she was a disco queen, often seen in mini skirts and sky-high platform heels. This passion for dance continued throughout her life, as she lit up family gatherings with her stylish outfits and infectious laughter. Her signature look included her favorite color, purple, complemented by sparkly jewelry, glamorous dresses, and her iconic big hair, often adorned with a headband.
What we admired most about Nida was her fierce independence. She lived life on her own terms, unafraid to express her thoughts and feelings. Nida took great joy in self-care, regularly indulging in her hair and nails, massages, shopping and vacations. Nida loved to travel, especially on cruises. She also loved her casino adventures with her brother Jimmy, sister-in-law Pat, and many of her friends and coworkers. She had a passion for food, especially Thai cuisine, siu mai, empanadas, and her Filipino favorites from family gatherings. Her love for music was evident as she often played Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Michael Bolton in her car, blasting "I Will Always Love You" and "My Heart Will Go On."
Nida's generosity knew no bounds. She made every holiday and celebration special with her thoughtful gifts, often arriving with her car filled to the brim with presents. Her crafting skills shone through in her beautifully made gift baskets and scrapbooks.
Her generosity extended to her friends and co-workers at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where she dedicated over 20 years of her career. Colleagues described Nida as a diligent and committed team member who celebrated their milestones with food, festivities, and memorable field trips to Disneyland. In recognition of her exceptional service, she earned the title of "Most Outstanding Nurse" in 1995 and served for two years as the President of the American Cancer Society in Long Beach, CA.
Nida's generosity was deeply rooted in her faith. As a devout member of the Crusaders of the Divine Church of Christ (CDCC), she dedicated herself to her community. In 1980, she was honored to become the “CDCC Mother Philippines” and later reigned as the 3rd Princess during the 1998 CDCC Seventh Annual Festival. In 2005, she was crowned Mrs. Crusaders. Nida was an active participant in the California chapter of the CDCC, contributing generously to the church.
One of Nida’s proudest moments came in 2017 when Christopher married Jeanell, welcoming a wonderful daughter-in-law and becoming a grandmother to Rowan and Rylo. After retiring from Long Beach Memorial Hospital, Nida cherished her time with her grandchildren, sharing laughter and joy, and passing down Christopher's old toys to them. Her love for dancing is with Rowan Matthew and her beaming smile with Rylo Jai.
At 69 years old, Nida passed away at home, reuniting with her parents, Cornelius Daus Sr. and Marcelina Saad Daus, her brother Robert Daus, and her beloved nieces, Maricel Sudaria Daus and Karen Daus Capalaran.
Loved so much by her tight knit Daus family, Nida is survived by her children Christopher and Jeanell, grandchildren, Rowan and Rylo, her siblings, Virginia & Moreno, Jimmy & Nancy, Cornelius Jr. & Patricia, Vicfilamer & Eduardo, and Dyna; her nieces and nephews, Froylan & Joanna, Allan, Arlene & Roderick, Julie Anne & Mike, Mary Lou & Roger, Michelle, Michael, Mark, Kenneth,Lauren, and Jeanelle; her grand nieces and nephew Jaelyn, Amianan, Maleya, Melani, Razón, Malia and many relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
