Nestor Manuel Nieves

February 26, 1939 — September 3, 2019

In 1967, Nestor Nieves, an accountant, left Cuba with nothing more than a suitcase and a few dollars, hoping to get enough money to ultimately bring his family to America and have a better life than they were leaving behind. It is an understatement to say he succeeded and along the way made friends and journeys throughout the world. Nestor passed away on September 3, 2019 after a battle with dementia.

As anybody who knew him saw, he never lost who he was in his youth. When his job was taken away in Cuba, he raised his family with what he could selling homemade croquettes on the streets in his neighborhood. Once in America he turned his expertise in accounting into a career in banking and later learned the intricacies of film distribution which allowed him to travel the globe, often with his family. His hearty laugh on the Croisette in Cannes was a familiar sound as he spoke with his friends or colleagues which were one in the same. Never one to shy from the memories of the casinos of his youth, he enjoyed time in Las Vegas and usually with a good cigar. Always in a suit and tie during business hours, on weekends his daughters and grandchildren always remember Grandpa in his Hawaiian shirts.

Nestor was 80 years old. He is survived by Lucy, his wife of 59 years; his two daughters, Ana and Beatrice; two son-in-laws Mark and Pat, and his four grandsons, Chris, William, John and Connor.
Please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association. This wonderful foundation aims to end the disease through the advancement of research, provide and enhance care and support for all affected and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

Thank you for donating in memory of Nestor Nieves.
