Obituary of Nes Vincente Rodriguez
April 27, 1961 – February 15, 2025
Nes Vincente Rodriguez, 63, of Seattle, WA, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, in the city of Los Angeles, CA. Born on April 27, 1961, in Okinawa, Japan, he was the beloved husband of Llola Rodriguez for 14 years and a devoted father to Llola's kids.
Nes is survived by his loving wife, Llola Rodriguez; her beloved children; his sister, Ann Regis; and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold his memory close. Nes was a gifted Sound Engineer MixMaster, whose passion for music and unwavering commitment to hip-hop shaped an entire generation of artists and fans.
Nes was a pillar of strength and love to his family, embodying the very essence of devotion, kindness, and unwavering support. As a husband, he was more than a partner—he was a best friend, a father in Christ and an example of endless love and encouragement. Through six years of dating and nearly eight beautiful years of marriage, Nes and Llola built a love story defined by love, laughter, loyalty, and an unshakable bond that only deepened with time. He stood beside her with immense pride and admiration, especially as she pursued her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, never wavering in his support. Through long nights of studying, moments of doubt, and the milestones that followed, Nes was her rock—offering words of encouragement, celebrating every achievement, and constantly reminding her that she was never alone.
His love wasn’t just spoken; it was lived, demonstrated in every action, every embrace, and every moment he chose to stand beside her. Beyond his steadfast devotion, Nes brought boundless joy and warmth into his marriage. He loved to make Llola laugh, whether through his humor, his playful spirit, or his gentle teasing. He cherished their dates, finding joy in the simplest moments spent together—whether it was sharing a meal, enjoying a quiet evening, or reminiscing about their shared memories. He adored the gentle touch of his wife’s hands, treasuring every back rub she gave him, knowing that it was more than just a gesture—it was love in its purest form.
Nes’s love for family extended beyond his role as a husband; he was a a pillar of strength, a beacon of love, a loving father and a guiding light to those who looked up to him. His wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love shaped the lives of those around him, offering them a foundation of strength and security. He embraced every moment spent with family, treasuring the laughter, conversations, and shared meals that brought them together. He especially loved his wife’s cooking and that of her relatives, savoring every bite as an expression of love and togetherness. For Nes, food was more than sustenance—it was a symbol of family, unity, and the bonds that held them close.
As many of you may know, Nes was a legendary Filipino DJ, actor, and promoter who played an imperative role in shaping the music industry since the 1980s. His work with prestigious labels such as Death Row Records, Loud Records, Ruff House, Ruff Nation, Relativity, Priority Records, and Bad Boy Records helped countless artists find their voices and leave a lasting impact on the industry. Nes co-founded Nasty Mix Records and later established Crazy Pinoy Promotions in 1992, solidifying his place as a pioneer who put "Pinoy" on the hip-hop map. He was also the first and only Filipino to debut hip-hop on the radio, famously discovering Sir Mix-A-Lot in 1980. A visionary and community leader, Nes dedicated his life to amplifying Filipino voices and fostering unity through music.
His influence was felt not only in Seattle but across the country, where he tirelessly promoted hip-hop to college radio stations through RapAttackLives.com, ensuring that emerging artists had a platform to be heard. For years, Nes left his mark on Seattle’s radio scene, beginning with his groundbreaking work at KFOX and later at KCMU (now KEXP), where he introduced listeners to fresh underground sounds. His radio show was a staple in Seattle, a beacon for hip-hop at a time when the genre fought for mainstream recognition. More than just a DJ, Nes was a mentor, advocate, and tastemaker, breaking some of the most iconic artists of the '80s and '90s. Beyond his contributions to music, Nes was a man of strength, resilience, and dedication. He faced challenges with an unwavering spirit, inspiring those around him with his determination and passion.
Nes was more than just a radio host or promoter—he was a force in the hip-hop community, a devoted family man, and a true friend to many. Nes will always be remembered—not just for his groundbreaking contributions to music, radio, and culture but for the profound and endless love that he presented to his family and friends. His legacy lives on in every heart he touched, in every smile he brought, and in the beautiful memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. He was more than a pioneer in the music industry; he was a mentor of warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His impact extended far beyond his professional achievements—it was felt in the way he uplifted others, the joy he brought into every room, and the love he so freely shared.
Though he is deeply missed, his love remains eternal, a guiding force that will never fade. His presence will forever be felt in the laughter he inspired, the wisdom he imparted, and the bonds he strengthened. His spirit lives on, not only in the music he helped shape but in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal love and power. Now, it is our turn to honor Nes Vincent Rodriguez and support his family during this difficult time.
