Obituary

Nenita Campillanos - Liwag, a devoted educator, loving mother, and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at Riverside Community Hospital. Born on December 9, 1948, in Cabanatuan City, Philippines, Nenita’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to nurturing others.

Her extraordinary journey began with a passion for knowledge and an earnest desire to uplift young minds. Nenita earned her Bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University - Philippines, her Master’s from Araullo University, and later achieved her PhD from Wesleyan University - Philippines. Her teaching career blossomed at the College of the Immaculate Conception, where she began as a high school teacher. Over the course of 37 years, she flourished as a college and graduate school professor, touching countless lives with her wisdom and gentle encouragement. Her exceptional contributions to education were nationally recognized when she was honored by Malacañang, an accolade that spoke volumes about her passion and dedication.

Beyond her academic achievements, Nenita was a woman of deep kindness and warmth. Known for her thoughtful nature and infectious humor, she had an uncanny ability to make everyone around her feel at ease. Always the life of the party, Nenita’s laughter and spirit brightened any room she entered. To many, she was the best "Tita," showering her children’s friends with the same love and care she gave her own family.

Her heart was so generous that she made the selfless decision to set aside her own dream of becoming a lawyer to care for her family—a sacrifice that reflected her profound love and commitment. Her home was a sanctuary where true love blossomed; her marriage to Domingo Manabat Liwag, now deceased, was a beautiful testament to enduring love. A homebody who found peace and happiness within her household, Nenita poured her creative spirit into gardening and decorating, filling her surroundings with vibrancy and warmth, all touched by her beloved color orange. Whether it was the house, the roof, or the flowers in her garden, orange brought a comforting glow, mirroring the joy she carried within.

Nenita delighted in entertaining guests, dancing especially ballroom, and listening to music while tending to her garden or adorning her home with festive decorations. These simple pleasures reflected a woman who embraced life fully with grace and enthusiasm.

She is deeply missed by her loving daughter Angel, devoted son Joseph, caring sister Fe, beloved grandchildren Rhianne, Kandice, and Kenry, as well as nieces Hazel, Kriselle, and nephews Rio, Randy and her cherished grand fur babies, Kookie and Kimchie. Though her husband Domingo has passed, her family and friends continue to cherish her memory and the countless moments of love and joy she gifted them.

A funeral service to honor Nenita’s remarkable life will be held on May 18, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills, Church of Our Heritage, located at 21300 Via Verde Drive, Covina, CA 91724. Those who knew her will gather to celebrate the life of a woman who not only educated minds but also nurtured hearts.

Nenita Campillanos - Liwag’s legacy is one woven from strands of compassion, sacrifice, and unwavering warmth. Her story is a tender reminder of the enduring power of love and the beauty found in a life lived with purpose. She will forever remain the best mom, aunt, teacher, and friend in the hearts of those lucky enough to know her.
