Nelson Andrew Brindle April 12, 1949 – May 31, 2026

Nelson Andrew Brindle, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Nelson lived a life defined by faith, service, kindness, and an unwavering love for others. He had a remarkable gift for bringing joy wherever he went. His quick wit, warm smile, and generous spirit made people feel instantly welcome. Like the Grinch whose heart grew three sizes, Nelson's heart seemed to know no limits. He never hesitated to help someone in need and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Born on April 12, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Nelson moved with his family to California at the age of six. As the eldest of four children, he embraced responsibility early in life, developing the perseverance, integrity, and compassion that would guide him throughout his years.

Nelson attended St. John Bosco High School and Bellflower High School, where he excelled in mathematics and English while enjoying sports and theater. As well as earning his Eagle Scout Medal. He continued his education at Cerritos College before earning degrees in Accounting and English from California State University, Fullerton.

After spending twenty successful years in accounting, Nelson followed a calling that had long been growing in his heart—the desire to teach. He earned his teaching credential from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and began what would become a beloved second career. For twenty years, he taught Algebra and Geometry at St. John Bosco High School before joining St. Joseph High School, where he taught for an additional four years before retiring.

Teaching was far more than a profession for Nelson—it was his passion and his ministry. Some of his greatest joys came from seeing a student's face light up when a difficult concept finally made sense. He loved coaching baseball and golf, participating in school theater productions, attending countless sporting events and activities, and building lifelong friendships with students, families, and colleagues. He took great pride in helping young people discover their confidence, potential, and purpose.

Outside the classroom, Nelson found happiness in reading, music, travel, golf, fantasy baseball & football and cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. He embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude, finding joy in both life's grand moments and its simple pleasures.

Nelson also proudly served his country in the United States Army. Trained as a linguist and communications specialist, he earned Top Secret security clearance and was stationed in Vietnam. During his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star for his courageous efforts in helping transport troops from a collapsed trench during a severe rainstorm. He was honorably discharged in November 1972.

In 2005, Nelson faced one of the greatest challenges of his life when he was diagnosed with cancer at the base of his throat. After enduring extensive treatment, surgery, and a difficult recovery, he adopted a personal mantra that would become his guiding principle: "Never Give Up, Never Give Up." He lived those words every day and shared them often with others facing challenges of their own.

Although the treatments extended his life, their long-term effects gradually brought new obstacles, including hearing loss, swallowing difficulties, and recurring aspiration pneumonia. Yet true to his character, Nelson met each challenge with remarkable courage, determination, and faith. His resilience became an inspiration to all who knew him.

On May 31, 2026, after years of facing these complications with extraordinary strength and grace, Nelson was called home to be with the Lord he faithfully served throughout his life.

Nelson is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Jeanne; his daughter, Keri, and son-in-law, Don; his son, Joshua, and daughter-in-law, Celia; and his five cherished grandchildren, Mackenzie, Morgan, Regan, Brandon, and Andrew. He is also survived by his brother, Richard, and sister-in-law, Mary, along with nine nieces and nephews.

Family meant everything to Nelson. Through both his words and actions, he taught those around him the importance of unconditional love, loyalty, kindness, perseverance, and faith. Those lessons will continue to guide his family for generations to come.

Known affectionately by many as "The Joker", Nelson brought energy, humor, and warmth wherever he went. He generously volunteered his time delivering food to those in need and remained a faithful servant of Christ throughout his life. Whether in the classroom, on the golf course, at church, or gathered around the family dinner table, he had a unique ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved.

To say Nelson will be missed hardly captures the depth of the loss felt by those who knew him. Yet his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the students he inspired, the family he cherished, and the faith he carried so faithfully. Whether you knew him as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, coach, veteran, or friend, you knew someone who genuinely cared about others and made the world a little brighter simply by being in it.

While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that his suffering has ended and that he has been welcomed into the loving arms of his Savior. We are profoundly grateful for the years we shared, the memories he gave us, and the immeasurable love he poured into our lives.

His favorite words were, "Never Give Up, Never Give Up." Through his courage, his faith, and the way he lived each day, he showed us exactly what those words mean.

Until we meet again, we will carry your love, your lessons, your laughter, and your spirit with us always. We are grateful beyond words for the gift of having known you, loved you, and been loved by you.

Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
