Nelly Maria Castillo, a beloved lady known for her warmth and vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on November 30,2024, at the age of 91. Born on November 13, 1933, Nelly lived a life characterized by kindness, humor, and an unwavering dedication to both her family and her community.

Nelly made significant contributions to the jewelry business alongside her late husband, Manuel G. Castillo. She managed the jewelry repair portion of the business while simultaneously ensuring her household ran smoothly. Her talents extended to culinary delights, where she was celebrated for her remarkable ability to prepare exquisite three-course meals for her family. She took great joy in hosting gatherings, often showcasing her famous dishes such as Paella, Millionaire's rice, Ceviche, Polenta Pie, and Chicken Spaghetti.

With a vocational diploma from secretarial school in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Nelly embodied resourcefulness and commitment in all aspects of her life. Beyond her family and business responsibilities, she enjoyed cherishing traditions, particularly during Thanksgiving and Christmas, where elaborate meals brought family and friends together. An avid music lover, she gathered an impressive collection of record albums, spanning various genres and eras, with a fondness for artists ranging from Elvis to John Lennon. She also loved Los Panchos and Julio Jaramillo.  Dancing to her favorite tunes while savoring a glass of wine or champagne was a cherished pastime that reflected her joyful character.

Nelly's personality was a blend of fun, spunk, and spontaneity, complemented by a cute sense of humor and a keen fashion sense that often turned heads. Known for her welcoming nature, she organized social events that left lasting memories. However, she was also assertive and protective of her loved ones when the situation required it, demonstrating a deep love for her family.

Throughout her life, Nelly was actively involved in charitable organizations focused on supporting impoverished children in Ecuador, such as Casa Ecuador. Her generosity extended further as she regularly donated to local charities, including the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels, showcasing her commitment to giving back to her community.

Nelly leaves behind her cherished children, Ann Maria Castillo Smith, Nelly Fabiola Castillo Kaleugher, and Christopher Manuel Castillo. She was predeceased by her husband, Manuel Gilberto Castillo, and her granddaughter, Justina Fabiola Kaleugher, whose memories will be held dear by all who knew them.  She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Anthony Roger Kaleugher, Cody Robert Smith, Luke Austin Smith, Kylan Pamela Castillo, Harlyn Nelly Castillo, and Adelyn Hope Castillo.  

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Nelly's life at her funeral service, which will take place on:

December 28, 2024, at 12:00 PM at the Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, California. 

Following the interment, please join her family for a celebration of life reception at Chris Castillo's residence:

Nelly's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of many.
