Nellie Muñoz, a woman whose presence was small in stature but immense in spirit, passed peacefully at her home of 70 years in Azusa, CA, on May 7, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on November 17, 1928, in Tortugas, NM, Nellie lived a life that touched countless hearts, embodying the true spirit of a matriarch who cared deeply for everyone she encountered.
Nellie’s life was a testament to love and devotion. She spent her days nurturing those around her, an ever-steady force of compassion and strength. Her wonderful wit often echoed in the words she lived by: "Dynamite comes in small packages." Truly, she was just that—a powerful presence who offered immense love and guidance.
She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to cherish her memory dearly. She is survived by her devoted son Leonard and his wife Sue; her daughter Lydia; her son Andy and his wife Marisela; her daughter Carmen and her husband Michael; and her son Louie and his wife Adrianna. Her legacy of love extends through sixteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Nellie is also survived by her brother Pete.
Nellie’s journey was marked by the loving memories of those she has joined in rest: her parents, Luis and Carmen; siblings Luis, Joe, Gilbert, Connie, and Florence; her beloved husband Luis; and son-in-law Huey, who all await reunion with her in eternity.
A funeral service to honor Nellie’s remarkable life will be held on May 18, 2026, from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills - Church of Our Heritage, located at 21300 Via Verde Drive, Covina, CA 91724.Grave sight 3:30PM until 4:30PM Celebration of life to follow service will be held at the Garcia residence, located at 147 S. Orange, Azusa, Ca 91702.
Nellie’s life was a beacon of love and strength, a matriarch whose heart was as vast as it was warm. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. In remembering Nellie, we hold close her spirited words and her unmatched capacity for love—a beautiful reminder that true dynamite truly does come in small packages.
