Nellie Mae "Pups" Mackey

June 21, 1928 — March 7, 2019

On the afternoon of March 7th 2019, Nellie Mae Mackey of Los Angeles, formerly of Greenville, South Carolina, went to be with the Lord.

Nellie Mackey was born in Greenville, South Carolina to Annie Mae Sullivan and Rawley Harris on June 21st 1928. She married the love of her life Robert Hampton Mackey in 1947 and together raised their only son Robert Mackey Jr. She was affectionately nicknamed "Pups" by her son because of her love of dogs. She was a licensed cosmetologist and worked at the Beverly Hills Hotel for many years.

Nellie was a dedicated and loving family woman. Her favorite activity was spending time with her family and friends. Nellie loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She loved to dance and eat with her family. Also, in her spare time she loved to vacation in Las Vegas and attend horse races.

She was a proud grandmother of two and a great-grandmother of six. She was known for her generosity, kindness, and great sense of humor. Nellie had an amazing and genuine ability to make each person she came in contact with feel special and appreciated. Nellie was known for her candid, unfiltered, and blunt statements that left a lasting impression and often left people with a smile on their face. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Nellie is preceded in death by her husband Robert, brother Melvin Sullivan, and her son Robert Jr. She is survived by her sister Bernadine Flanagan, grandson and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Orfa Mackey; grandson and daughter-in-law, Lamont and Blanca Mackey; as well as six beautiful great-grandchildren Elijah Aaron Mackey, Ryan Omar Mackey Jr., Isaiah Moses Mackey, Trinity Angel Mackey, Grace Hope Mackey, and Jayden Matthew Mackey. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nephews, and a niece.

A public memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on March 14th at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills.
