Nancy Wong, 81, born on January 24, 1943, in Shanghai, China. She had a stroke on Monday, December 9, while at the Sunny Cal ADHC playing Mah Jong. She was transported to the USC Arcadia Hospital to have a procedure to remove the blood clot. Even though the procedure was successful but the stroke had done too much damage. She peacefully passed away December 13, 2024 and went home to the Lord.
Nancy was the 2nd of four children born to Chu Zoy Bong and Chu Sim Kuen. Nancy's family moved from Shanghai to Hong Kong in 1951, when she was 8, to escape the Communists. She was the second of four children, which included her oldest brother, Francis, and two younger sisters, Shirley and Margaret.
Her family left China when she was 8 years old and moved to Hong Kong. She attended Pui Ching Middle School in Hong Kong where she would learn about Jesus and the Christian faith. Her mother passed from cancer when she was 20 years old.
Nancy came to the US in 1967, when she was 24, and went to Hartnell Jr. College in Salinas, California. She would meet her future husband, Wally, while working as a waitress at his brother-in-law's restaurant. After a few years in Salinas, Nancy moved down to the Los Angeles area and started to attend Cal State, Los Angeles. She didn't finish her degree but she was a go-getter and a hard worker and started working as a bank teller at Cathay Bank in Chinatown. She would make connections and learned about real estate. She would eventually open her own real estate agency, Monterey Park Realty, in Monterey Park. She spent the majority of her career as a real estate agent. When the market was slow she would reinvent herself and do different side jobs to help make ends meet, such as selling mooncakes, being a loan officer, working in escrow, and selling plots at Rose Hills.
Nancy and Wally married on December 29, 1972. They were married for 12 years. They would have one son, Daniel, who was born in December 1976.
When Nancy wasn't working she really enjoyed having fun. She loved playing Maj Jong, eating with friends, travel, and ballroom dancing. Nancy was a social butterfly and has numerous friends from her school days, work friends, and church friends.
Nancy was a very kind, generous, and warm person, and she will be missed by many who's lives she touched!
