East Hampstead, NH: Nancy J. (Harton) Watson, 65, a resident of East Hampstead since 1974, died on February 9, 2016 at her home following a long illness surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 10, 1950, in Providence, RI, and raised in Cranston, RI, and Huntington, CT, daughter of the late Vincent E. and Margaret (Dugan) Harton, she graduated from Shelton High School with the Class of 1968. Mrs. Watson went on to attend the Beth Israel School of Dental Assistance and was first employed as a Dental Assistant for the offices of Dr. Brian Shuman, DMD of Kingston and Dr. Gary Cohen.
Mrs. Watson served as Town Clerk and Town Tax Collector from 1989 until 2000. She was employed at Avitar Associates Software Company from 2000 to 2006. She then served as the Deputy Tax Collector in Derry from 2006 to 2009 and as the Tax Collector Municipal Agent in Derry from 2009 until her retirement in 2012.
A member and Past President of the New Hampshire Tax Collectors Association and a member of St. Anne's Parish in Hampstead, Mrs. Watson was a Religious Education and CCD teacher for many years. She also served on the Liturgy Committee and as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband, John, and also enjoyed knitting, and cross stitching. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and her family.
She is survived by her husband of forty-five years, John A. Watson, a son and daughter-in-law, Brian E. and Christina Watson of Derry, NH, a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer W. and Christopher Hamilton of Sandown, NH, a sister, Sara Mitchell of Marshfield, MA, three grandchildren, Keegan W. Hamilton, John D. Watson, and Ella S. Watson, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Watson's Life Celebration on Sunday, February 14 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will begin on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne Church, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH. Burial will take place in the spring in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead.
