Mona Mount

Mona Joy Mount, 93, born on May 27, 1931, in Porter, Washington, United States, to Chesley Shepherd and Wilma Aldridge, passed away January 26, 2025. She resided in Palm Desert, California at the time of her passing. 

Her husband (and love of her life) Richard (Dick) Arlen Mount, passed in 2007. They were married for 57 years. 

This tribute will in part address the great love story they shared together. She met Dick at Highline High School in Burien, WA and were high school sweethearts. They married on May 26, 1950. They raised their children in Orange County, CA. She was always involved and supported her children's activities and endeavors. 

In the 1970's and 1980's she worked several years as an accountant at Alpha Beta Grocery and volunteered at St. Jude's Hospital. 

They fell in love with the California desert and purchased a condominium in Indian Wells where they enjoyed spending their weekends. They enjoyed the time spent in their desert getaway residence so much that they decided to make their permanent home in Sun City Palm Desert where they were active in many of the clubs and events sponsored by the community. She enjoyed entertaining. Moments spent at her home were filled with love and warmth. Her home was always beautifully decorated as she had a flair for interior design and actually considered exploring that field. 

They traveled the world together exploring such destinations as Hawaii, Canada, France, London, Holland, Italy, New Zealand, Mexico, Hong Kong as well as extensive travel throughout the United States. They even booked and flew on the Concorde supersonic passenger airplane! 

After her beloved husband passed, she adopted an adorable miniature poodle named Sophie who became her beloved companion. She and Sophie shared 10 happy years together. 

She continued to remain socially active in various clubs and events and lived independently in her beautiful home in Palm Desert until her passing. 

She was loved and is survived by four children: Natalie Bennett, Stephanie Jo Griffin (Eddie), Leslie Walker and Bruce Mount; six grandchildren: Heather James (Dennis), John Spalding, Chad Walker (Erica), Ashley Mount, Taylor Beck (David) and Corey Mount (Lexi);14 great grandchildren: Dominique Wangler, Kelsee St. George (Noah), Emily St. George, Hayley James, Kasiah Mount, Falen Scheeff, Ryder Scheeff, Hazel Scheeff, Lucy Beck, Zoe Beck, Timmy Mount, Hunter Mount, Chase Mount, and Ava Mount; and three great-great grandchildren: Dahlia Joy Evans and Lucas (Luke) Theodore Walker and Logan Wangler. 

She was the matriarch of the family and an inspiration to all. Truly a life well lived. She is greatly missed. 

In honor of her wishes, a private family memorial service will be held Sunday, March 9, 2025.
