Moises Bernal Espejo

With deep sorrow and overflowing love, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Moises Bernal Espejo, “Momoy,” on July 8, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on October 28, 1950, in Manila, Philippines, to Juan and Liberata Espejo, Moises lived a life marked by devotion, humility, hard work, and unwavering love for those around him. Known for his “makulit” humor and lighthearted nature, he was someone who could make anyone laugh—even during life’s toughest moments. But beneath that playfulness was a deeply selfless man who gave of himself wholeheartedly to family and friends who needed a helping hand.

He was a devoted and loving husband to Lilian Racelis Espejo, and a proud father to Michael Angelo, Manuel Luis, Maria Paz Consuelo, and Monica Mae. He welcomed his children-in-law, Marites Sipagan and Joseph Aguilar, with open arms, always treating them as his own. His greatest joy came from being “Lolo” to his beloved grandchildren—Matthew Gerald, Meghan Kyla, Madisson Lianne, Katelyn Alyza, Maxine Layla, Mason Jeremy, and Laila Ray—and his great-granddaughter, Mathia.

He is preceded in death by his sister Ana Turla and brother Abraham Espejo. He is survived by his loving siblings: Purification Fajardo, Natividad Realica, Grace Basat, Nieves Bator, Lydia Hunckler, David Espejo, and Daniel Espejo. Though time and distance may have separated them physically, the love they shared as a family remained strong and lasting.

Moises, a proud graduate of De Ocampo Memorial College with a degree in Medical Technology, he worked with integrity and dedication as a laboratory technician. He was known in his workplace for being an innovative and dependable team player—someone who embraced new challenges, learned quickly, and supported those around him. He was often recognized for his strong work ethic, humility, and reliability, leaving a legacy of excellence and camaraderie.

Moises, was selfless, and full of love. He led his family not just with words, but with quiet strength, tireless dedication, and a heart that never stopped giving. As a father, he was a constant source of support and guidance, always putting his children’s needs above his own and celebrating their milestones as his greatest achievements. As a grandfather, he was playful, present and endlessly proud. Never missing his facetime chat calls, always ready with a story, a laugh, or a loving embrace. He made each grandchild feel like the center of his world, creating memories that will live in their hearts forever. His love was gentle but powerful, and his presence made it feel like home for all of them.

Moises was not only a generous father and grandfather—he was also an extraordinary friend. If you came to him in need, he welcomed you. He never hesitated to open his door to friends who needed a place to stay, a warm meal, or simply someone to listen. He believed in helping others without expectation, and many can say they found shelter, comfort, and strength through his kindness. His home and heart were always open, and he quietly gave so much of himself to others—never needing recognition, only hoping to ease another’s burden.

Outside of work, Moises was a lifelong athlete. In his prime, he played basketball every other weekend with friends and colleagues. He was a skilled and passionate player who lived for the game and the camaraderie it brought. He was also very passionate about bowling, where he didn’t just excel. He proudly competed in league tournaments with coworkers and friends, earning multiple trophies. Bowling nights weren’t just games, they were moments of connection, laughter and pride.

Moises came from humble beginnings, but through hard work, sacrifice, and love, he built a life of dignity and purpose. He achieved his American dream, raised a family rooted in love, and touched countless lives along the way—not just with words, but with actions that reflected his deep generosity and faith in others.

We will miss his music echoing around the house with his off beat dance moves, his laughter at the dinner table, his playful threats over who gets the last of dessert, but he always ends up giving it up with a kiss on the forhead, fun chats in his room while watching basketball and talking about the latest new of Lakers,  his wisdom in conversations, and the quiet strength of his presence.

Momoy leaves us with a legacy of love, laughter, and the joyous spirit of family that will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know him.
