Ming Chiao Kuo, Artist, Dies at 97

Ming Chiao Kuo, a renowned Chinese born (1917) artist died February 21, 2014 at his home in Los Angeles. Often referred to as Taiwan's cloisonné master, he was probably most known for his award winning cloisonné objects. Mr. Kuo started his artistic career as a figure painter whose works were internationally exhibited and acclaimed. He studied at the (National) Beijing Art School under the tutelage of Xu Beihong and Jian Zhaohe. His most notable work is "1956", an epic one hundred and thirty-eight foot scroll painting that depicted the social and economic turmoil surrounding the Chinese Communist Revolution. After moving to Taiwan, he went on to become a successful teacher and entrepreneur. His works have been shown and put on permanent display worldwide, including the Vatican. Mr. Kuo is survived by his wife, Shu Mien Kuo and children, Robert, Sharon, David and Judy. He was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his passion for life and artistic contribution to modern Chinese art.
