Milton Tolewis Slater

April 30, 1958 — July 15, 2021

On April 30, 1958, in Doctors Hospital, Los Angeles, California, Willie and Mel Slater became the proud parents of their first-born child, Milton Toulewis Slater, (better known to his extended family) as Buttons. Milton was a very active, inquisitive child who took great pleasure in assisting his Mom. As a child, he was considered his Father's shadow and always enjoyed being by his sidewherever he went. Occasionally, this would work against his father, as if he saw his Dad run a yellow light, and then saw a police officer, He would be eager to report His Dad's activity to the Officer. When his Dad asked him to keep a secret and not tellHis Mom. He would report during family dinner, "Dad, I'm not going to tell Mom our secret about the perfume you bought for her birthday today". One Christmas when his Dad bought him his first train set. His Father got so enamored with the train as Milton looked on. Finally, Milton asked his Father, "Dad, may I play with your train set"? At six years old, Milton made a decision for Christ and joined Greater New Salem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor V. B. Griffith. Milton attended George Washington High School in Los Angeles, California. He loved music and after high school played guitar with a Band. He received his Associates Degree at Cerritos College, and subsequently completed his B.A. in Business and Engineering. He worked as a Service Technician at Xerox in El Segundo. He had a lucrative career as an Engineer and worked at Extron until he took an early retirement. He continued to study with health challenges and successfully passed the test to be a Real Estate Broker in 2021 with plans to relocate to Houston and use his skills as a Broker. He loved playing the guitar and writing songs. He recently completed six new songs. During his career at Extron He met the love of his life, Rebecca (Becky) Vesagas. The two were married April 21, 2007. In this union, Milton became the stepfather of two daughters, Danica and Reniel de los Santos.Milton was always protective and concerned of the well-being of his family. He would make sure that his wife had everything she needed and desired. Even during his own illness, he would assist his Mother in taking care of his Father, taking him to his Doctor's appointments and caring for him throughout the day and night. Quite simply, he was a devoted Husband, Son and Brother. He andhis niece, Jan-ee developed a special bond as together they cared for their Dad and Grandfather. He leaves to mourn, his wife Rebecca Slater; stepdaughters Danica and Reniel de los Santos; mother, Mel Slater; brother and sister in law, Neil and Jennifer Slater; godmother, Mary Mays; aunts and uncles, Ken and Sydney Slater, Nelda Huchens, John Purdue, Anita Williams, Vera Bradley, Charles and Ruth Bragg, Bernard and Sally Austin; nieces and nephews, Jan-ee and Sharee Slater, Jasmin and Jackie Slater, Neil Slater, Jr., and a host of relatives and friends.
