Milagros Catuncan Costa, 94 years old, of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, after illness. She was born on August 14, 1931 to her parents Pedro Catuncan Sr and Nieves Mojica.
Milagros Catuncan Costa was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent her entire life dedicated to her family and her career as a school teacher. She completed two master's degree in education with Magna Cum Laude honors at CSU Dominguez Hills. During the day, she taught elementary school & at night taught ESL to foreign students who needed to learn English. In addition, she was an active member of the Indang Cavite Association for over 50 years.
She is survived by her five children and her 6 grandchildren who will carry on the her legacy of strength and love.
During her childhood years, she started taking piano lessons. By the time she was seven years old, playing the piano became one of her favorite hobbies. Her other hobbies were reading and roller skating. Throughout her elementary school, from kindergarten to third grade, she attended catholic school and her teachers were nuns. In the beginning, she was scared of the nuns with their strict class discipline. Regardless, she enjoyed all of her classes. Then her parents decided to transfer her to a public elementary school where her mother was the principal. She became more relaxed and thrived. When her mother would visit her classroom and see her daughter talking, her mother would attract her attention. She truly enjoyed her elementary school days, not just because she was the principal's daughter, but rather because of the of the many activities she participated in such as choir and folk dancing. The sad part was when WWII broke out. She was just in the 6th grade.
Milagros Catuncan Costa approached everyday with grace and determination, a true inspiration to all who knew her. She taught us the meaning of resilience, and her love for life was contagious.
