Michel A. Absi

February 10, 1943 — March 3, 2020

Michel Abdullah Absi was born on February 10, 1943 to his parents Abdullah and Maria Mahawech Absi in Damascus, Syria. He is the oldest of his 5 siblings, His Beatitude Patriarch Joseph, George, Lydia, and Ghada.
He grew up among his siblings in Syria and attended medical school in Damascus, where he graduated top of his class. In 1969 he completed residencies in Zahle, Lebanon and then in Chicago, Illinois. He pursued his medical studies and would spend his life practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology in Michigan, Saudi Arabia, and most recently in California.

While traveling back to visit his family in Lebanon, he was introduced to Marie Rose Rached by his Uncle George Mehewach. They then married in April of 1980 and this year, they would have celebrated 40 years of marriage. They spent their early years living between Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Michigan until they finally settled in San Dimas, California in 1989.

He was a loving father to his 5 children; Anya, Rita, Sandra, Abe, and Maria. His daughters would later go on to marry and make Michel a Jiddo (grandfather) to 10 beautiful grandchildren who he adored.

Michel was known to most as "Hakim" (doctor), a title he held for over 50 years; spending the majority of his life dedicated to pursing his passion of helping others and bringing countless new life into the world.

The most important thing to Michel was his faith. He was a devout Melkite Christian and lived to serve God through his words and deeds. He was dedicated to building and supporting various Catholic churches in which he was a devout and dedicated member of the community. He was one of the founders of The Annunciation Melkite Catholic Church as well as Saint Jude Maronite Catholic Church.

Michel was a role model in every aspect of his life, as a husband, a father, a doctor, and a friend. He was a man of love, generosity, humility, and compassion. He was a lover of life who radiated positivity wherever he went. He was passionate about education and learning and was always reading, debating, and discussing important news and issues. He loved his family more than anything in this world and their happiness was him contentment.

Michel was truly one of a kind. He was loved by so many and touched the hearts of each person he met. He will be missed and cherished.

May his memory forever be eternal.
