Michael John Stoegbauer of La Quinta, CA, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the age of 70.
Born in Oshkosh, WI, to the late Norbert A. Stoegbauer and Marcella I. Bechler, Mike’s family relocated to Birmingham, Michigan, in 1959. He began his education at Holy Name School, where he quickly proved to be a gifted student and athlete who loved the challenges of both learning and competing.
He attended Brother Rice High School where, as a scholar-athlete, he was mentored by the legendary coach Al Fracassa. Though not the biggest player on the field, Mike’s grit and determination earned him All-State recognition in football as a senior and a football scholarship to the University of Massachusetts.
Following his father's lead into the soft drink industry, Mike relocated to the West Coast. He graduated from San Diego State University with a business degree and established himself as a successful entrepreneur. After 14 years, he moved to New York to join his sister, Mary Kay, and her husband, Tom Gallagher, in their family business, supporting the Greylock Group's real estate ventures. He later moved with the Gallagher family to Lake Tahoe and then to Palm Springs, assisting them with property management.
In 2010, Mike was appointed by the Greylock Group as Sales and Operations Manager of Bougainvillea Estates, a premier wedding venue in La Quinta, CA. Under his direction, it became one of the finest event locations in the area, and he specialized in booking high-profile clients during the annual Coachella Music Festival.
Mike had a natural gift for making people trust him with the most important events of their lives. His relaxed style put everyone at ease, and his trademark laugh was infectious. The sunny California weather was a perfect fit for a man who always reached for a jacket when the temperature dipped below 80 degrees.
He is survived by his two loving sisters, Mary Kay Gallagher and Jean Murphy, his brother-in-law Pete Murphy, as well as four nieces, three nephews, seven grandnieces, six grandnephews, and close friends who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Jim Stoegbauer, his brother-in-law, Tom Gallagher, and a grandniece.
To say Mike was unique would be an understatement. We will all hold dear the memory of a beloved brother, uncle, and friend who left an indelible mark on our hearts.
