Michael Luther Pendleton

May 26, 1953 — August 2, 2019

Michael Luther Pendleton, 66, of Huntington Beach passed away on August 2, 2019 from complications due to ALS with his loving wife Patricia Pendleton, who served as his caregiver for the past several years, by his side. He is survived by his three sisters Gayle Chase, Sandra Leibold, Carol Deuel, and their families, and one daughter, Stephanie Mossey, alongside two stepsons, Michael and Richard Lent and their respective partners, Jared Pappas-Kelley and Marcela Lent. He was a loving grandfather to Chad Wilkerson, August Gamble, and Mila Lent with a special place in his heart for his grand-niece Madison Murr and her brothers Landon and Logan. Michael was a graduate of Lakewood High School before entering the military. After suffering from cancer in 2008, he found a passion for running, completing his first marathon in Long Beach less than a year after his final chemotherapy. He was a much loved part of the AREC running club in Long Beach and completed multiple runs, including the Great North Run in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK in 2013. In recent years he became an advocate for ALS raising awareness in congress and was a Hero Recipient of the ALS OC Chapter. Michael had the great pleasure of attending his grandson Chad's wedding to Emily Wilkerson (née Routt) in his final months. He will be dearly missed by the extensive family and friends whose lives he touched throughout the years. Services will be held Aug.16 at St. Anne Church, Seal Beach at 11am with a graveside interment to follow at Forest Lawn, Cypress. In lieu of flowers the family asks that mourners may donate to ALS OC Chapter at http://weboc.alsa.org or http://brainrecoveryproject.org dedicated to Childhood Epilepsy Surgery
