Michael Nunez, was born in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Garfield High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force at just 16 years of age, where he specialized in logistics and transportation. After serving four years in the military, he returned home to California where he met his future wife. Once married, he purchased a home to raise his family in Rowland Heights, a small unincorporated portion of Los Angeles County. He eventually moved to his final home in Jurupa Valley located within Riverside County.
Throughout his life, he has been an avid animal supporter and has treated his animals, which he referred to at God's critters, as if they were family. He had animals for nearly his entire life and at times recycled some of their names. He believed that the animals deserved to drink bottled water just as he did; some of the animals deserved steaks at times (much to his neighbors' chagrin). He had an odd sense of humor that he shared with all, and it was appreciated by those who understood him.
He believed that it was his duty to assist and protect those who could not protect themselves. If a friend or family member needed assistance, they knew that all that was needed of them was to ask. His loyalty to his loved ones was unfettered, and he gave the best hugs freely. He always enjoyed having family around, loved watching the Dodgers and Los Angeles Kings, and reminiscing about stories of the past. He was known for having some of the loudest whistles and claps at any sporting event, and is fondly remembered for yelling "hit 'em with your purse" to various hockey players.
It was widely known that he enjoyed working on the plants in his yard and creating an environment that was welcoming and enjoyable for his loved ones - four-legged and human. Friends and family were always welcome to hang out while he worked on the yard and listen to some of his favorite music with him - which could be anything from Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fleetwood Mac or Bruce Springsteen, just to name a few. Summers were full of weekend barbecues, and in the winter he always tried to create the biggest woodburning fire in the fireplace; some of those fireplace fires overheated the house at times. Living in Jurupa Valley allowed him to take in even more stray animals, which included five cats, three dogs, three water turtles, and an assortment of wild rabbits and birds.
He passed away on May 16, 2024, at the age of 67. His passing was sudden and a tremendous shock to us all. He is preceded in death by his mother Martha Nunez, along with his siblings Jesse and Carol. He is survived by his wife Ana Maria, children Marina, Jason (wife Andrea) and Daniel, and grandchildren Joseph, Scarlet and Jesse. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, CA.
