Michael John Grismer

April 17, 1951 — December 28, 2017

Michael John Grismer (1951-2017) passed away peacefully in his home in Cerritos, CA on December 28th at the age of 66. Michael was born on April 17, 1951 in Wallace, Idaho to John and Lily Grismer. Michael was one of seven children, and twin brother to the late Patrick Grismer. His family moved to Perham, Minnesota to become stewards of a family farm, which is where Michael spent his formative years, until the family relocated to Charlotte, NC following his high school graduation. Michael received a diploma in automotive mechanics before landing a job with Delta Airlines, which moved him to Chicago, IL where he met his wife, Beverly. Together, they relocated to Los Angeles and Michael continued to work for Delta Airlines until his final days. Michael was proud of his 46 years of service with perfect attendance at Delta Airlines. Michael had many hobbies, and enjoyed fine carpentry, bicycling, playing darts, urban farming, hiking, traveling, cooking and spending time with his family. His most recent hobbies included mastering smoked barbeque, fermenting, and baking Chinese Char Siu Bao. Each year, Michael made it a priority to fly to North Carolina to attend his sister and brother in law's annual chili party, where he could visit family and friends, and above all, help out. You could find him behind the large pots of chili dishing out servings to any and every one with a big smile on his face. Michael had a reputation for having a positive attitude and always being ready to lend a helping hand. To many, he was the first they would call when in a pinch. Michael touched the lives of many people, from his carpool group, to the airline family, to those at his favorite store, Trader Joe's, his coffee group at Starbucks, friends and family far and wide, and most of all to his family who is grateful to have had him in their lives. Michael is survived by his wife Beverly, sons Eric (and wife, Yuri) and Mark, and daughter, Lisa. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 20 at 2pm at The Church of Our Fathers located on the grounds of Forest Lawn – Cypress, 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress, CA 90630.
