It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mike "Red" Cairncross, who left this world on October 12, 2025, in Irvine, CA, after bravely battling cancer for an extended period. Born on September 8, 1952, in Denver, CO, Mike touched the lives of many through his outgoing personality, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
Mike, a proud father to two remarkable sons, Anthony Cairncross of Idaho and John Michael Cairncross of Tennessee and grandfather to many. His family was not only his joy but his inspiration to fight against life’s challenges.
He was a loving brother to Ed Maxwell and Pam Petix, a wonderful uncle to six wonderful nieces and nephews. Kelly in particular who loved him and helped him through to his last breathe (Nada! Nada! Nada! was there favorite saying). They shared countless memories and experiences that would become the fabric of their togetherness. The fond recollections of playing games, particularly cards, bring a comforting smile as we think of the joyful gatherings that characterized Mike's life.
Mike's deep commitment to sobriety made him a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he inspired and supported others through his journey of recovery. This strength and resilience were evident in everything he pursued and contributed to in life, including his proud accomplishment of obtaining his Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
Mike was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Cairncross Sr. and Lois Cairncross, and his brother, John Cairncross Jr., with whom he is now reunited in everlasting peace.
His nickname "Red" is a testament to the vibrant and lively spirit he embodied. His infectious laughter and exuberant energy will echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Mike will forever be remembered for the warmth he shared, the lessons he imparted, and the love that radiated from his soul.
As we gather to celebrate Mike’s life, we invite those who loved him to join us for a funeral service on November 1, 2025, at Forest Lawn - Cypress, located at 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA 90630. The service will begin at 8:30 AM, where we can share our love for a man who fought valiantly and loved fiercely.
Though Mike has departed from this earthly realm, he remains ever-present in our hearts. His legacy lives on through the love of his family and friends, who will forever hold him dear. Mike “Red” Cairncross may be gone, but he will always be loved and missed beyond measure. Now, he rests in the gentle embrace of our Heavenly Father.
