Merle Lee Debus passed away early in the morning on September 5, 2019 in his home in Palm Springs, California. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on November 17, 1929. He grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska with his brother and sister. He graduated High School in 1947. He joined the military in 1951. He served in Germany and France, where he was promoted to sergeant. He was honorably discharged from the Army in October 1953 and lived in Lincoln, Nebraska. He moved to Omaha in 1963. He met Gloria Mertz when her boss introduced them in September 1963. They fell in love and got married on February 28, 1964. He started working where Gloria worked at Stang Hydronics in 1964. He received a promotion and moved with his family to Orange, California in 1968. Gloria and Merle worked together till June 1, 1990, and they retired in Palm Springs. On February 28, 2014 they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He enjoyed bowling, tennis, softball, biking, and roller skating. He lived to see his granddaughters get married, his grandson get engaged, and was able to know his great-grandchildren. He was a man who loved God and his family. He was warm, giving, loving, and supportive. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; his son, Ted Debus and his wife, Sue Debus; his granddaughter, Holly and her husband, Chris Scarborough; his granddaughter, Rebecca and her husband, Sean Burns; his grandson, Joel Debus; and his great-grandchildren, Daisy, Declan, and Lucy Scarborough and Susanna Burns. He was the best and most loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He lived a full life, filled with generosity and love. He shall not be forgotten.

A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, September 12th at 12:00 p.m., followed by a placement of the ashes and military honors at 1:30 p.m. Reception will be held following the ceremony.
